Things Get Ugly

Up in North-Central Maricopa County, what the kids at the club refer to as District 6, they are having a heck of a Republican primary. For those of you in Baja Arizona that may not know it, there is an ex-pointy ball player named Tony Bouie running against two candidates, Sam Crump and Carl Seel. Bouie has been dogged by charges that his recent switch to the Republican party is opportunism.

Allison, Bouie’s wife, claimed that some of the opposition to her husband’s candidacy was motivated by racism(Bouie is African-American). This charge was roundly denied on the Republican blogs, because, of course, there is no racism in the Republican party. Apparently, at least one guy didn’t get the message and has been posting racist flyers on Bouie’s signs.

Primary day is today, so this will all be over in a matter of hours. But, it makes me wonder what we are in store for in the general election when we have an African-American on the ballot for president.

  • Ted, not only are there no racists in the Republican party but, according to an LTTE in the AZ Republic yesterday, the occasional neo-Nazi who shows up at Republican state committee meetings is more than balanced out by all the socialists and communists at our Democratic ones.
