Live Blogging - Thursday
8:02 - Biographical film: shows baby picture of Obama and crowd goes “aww…”
8:00 - Technical note: my connection is slow, so bear with me.
7:57 - Sen. Richard Durbin is up to introduce Barack Obama.
7:53 - Younger delegates are excited because Master P is nearby. Janet Napolitano is leading several members of the delegation in a dance. Wisconsin delegate nearby has a “Cheeseheads for Obama” sign. Thankfully, they didn’t bring the hats.
7:49 - Michelle Obama is in the house. Crowd goes crazy.
7: 47 - Thirty thousand people in the stadium have texted “DNC” to 62262, a guy asks us to do it again. You can too.
7:44 - Monitor shows a guy at the very top of the stadium waving a HUGE flag. Crowd goes crazy.
7:40 - The line up is interesting: a couple of Southerners, Republicans, supporting Obama. A guy named Barney Smith is talking. Line of the night right here: “We need a president who will put Barney Smith before Smith-Barney.” Crowd erupts in chant of “Barney.” These are heartland, rural Republicans who don’t look much like the stereotypical Democrat, much less the charicature of an Obama voter.
7:38 - Anderson Cooper is set up on a riser behind us. One of his lights is on fire.
7:36 - Right now is a line up of regular folks making the economic case against McCain and for Obama.
7:34- Oh, David Waid just got a text: the recall of Mayor Gordon that Joe Arpaio was organizing has failed to get enough signatures. Aww.
7:30 - Here’s what you may have missed: Bill Richardson gave a stemwinder, and our own Gen. John Adams was on stage with a group of retired flag officers who support Obama. This place is absolutely frickin’ nuts. When there is a lull, the hoi polloi in the upped decks started the wave. We on the “floor” (sport turf, really) were just watching it. Nuts.

Glad to hear the Recall election against Mayor Gordon is off the table. One less thing for the dems to worry about as they focus on defeating McCain.

I saw some awesome Cheddarhead hats worn by the Wisconsin delegation. It reminded me of my summer days at my parents lake home in East Troy WI
I hope you had a blast at the Convention, I know that I sure did!
