Da-ha-ha-hang…

Wow.

Check out this piece that has been sent out to Mesa voters. It is being sent from a group called Mesa Deserves Better, led by Republican aparatchiks Nathan Sproul and Brian Murray (who is not Bill Murray’s brother). It is one of those “independent expenditures,” but it is pretty obvious that this hit will help Republican candidate Kevin Gibbons who hopes to defeat Russell Pearce in the primary. (I can’t imagine that Sproul and Murray are big fans of Judah Nativio)

What is amusing to me is the handwringing among the posters over at Espresso Pundit about Sproul’s tactics here. I don’t recall much concern when Sproul was directing his fire at Democrats. Now, he’s going after Pearce, it’s all of a sudden a problem. Also, Pearce and his allies aren’t exactly saints and have been happy to wallow in the same sort of muck for years.

The cro-magnon and neanderthal wings of the Arizona Republican party are tearing each other up? I say, buy a hot dog and enjoy the show.

  • It’s so adorable watching the Republicans implode over immigration.

Clue to the wealthy elite of the GOP: Pandering for votes by exploiting wedge issues has consequences.

  • Donna,

You stole my thunder. I couldn’t agree more. I strongly believe that the anti-immigration folks have severely alienated the business members of their party. Not only are folks like Pearce being hit by them, but they are also finding that the Democratic party isn’t so anti-business when it comes down to it. No wonder GOP donations are down.

I suspect that another issue that might be seriously attractive to Chamber folks is that of education, infrastructure and the like. Everyone in business knows that Arizona suffers dramatically from an under-qualified and trained workforce…and poor infrastructure. The GOP solution to this has been to cut taxes and cut spending. That works when the jobs are about cheap land, but when you finally get down to it, economic development suffers less from the Democrat agenda than it does from the GOP.

  • It’s a very well done, very professional looking hit peice - ah, tis the season!

  • Of course the Pearce people are all worked up, blaming this on the “open borders crowd….”

But somehow they’ve seemingly forgotten the sleazy “when-did-you-stop-beating-your-wife” comments that kept showing up on their blogs about DeSimone

  • I just wish the business community had stood with immigrants in 2004 and helped us beat Prop. 200. If they had, we wouldn’t have gone so far down the wrong road.

I hope they’ve learned their lesson: If you sit idley by, the crazies will eventually come after you, too.

  • Ex-AZ, you nailed it. My latest blog post is about that very thing. The Chamber of Commerce types did absolutely nothing to stop the bigoted initiatives of 2004 and 2006. In fact I’m guessing they liked some of them (such as the one that bans lawsuits by undocumented workers). But the minute the war on brown people started impacting their wallets it was a whole nother story.

  • I agree completely Ex-AZ and Donna. Perfectly said and you are both right. They hid and used the opportunity to elect GOPers that they thought might help them on business regulation and taxes. Instead, they got regulation and hurt a lot of people in the process.

I hope they will be less cowardly in the future and also use their muscle to promote better infrastructure (human and physical) in the future.

  • When Glen Hamer had the nerve to appear on “Desert Politics” on the liberal radio station KPHX one Saturday complaining about people like Pearce, I called in to tell him that the Arizona Chamber was merely reaping what it sowed. They have only themselves to blame for continuing to support the Nativist Neanderthals. I feel sorry for them not a bit.

  • Zelph, the problem is that there are some in the Democratic party (like the host of Desert Politics) who think that getting in bed with these people is the way to go. They honestly believe that people like Glenn Hamer and Jason LeVecke have had a moral epiphany and will embrace our candidates and our agenda after they use us to get rid of the Pearces and Arpaios. Not hardly. We’ll end up paying the price at the polls in November when the voters see us as the party who helped the “illegal employers”. It’s a losing proposition for us, all around.

  • BTW, thanks kralmajales. :)

  • I doubt that Todd really believes that Hamer and LeVecke have had an epiphany. I think he’s operating on the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” theory. At any rate, I love to call up and toss a turd into the punch bowl when he’s trying to get too cozy with these folks, who we both know would throw the Democratic party under the bus in a heartbeat when it’s convenient for them.

  • Guy’s like Pearce are from the “they” crowd. Using divisive terms and advocating hate will earn him a special place in hell. Oh yah! he already lives in Yuma.

I love that they are “eating” each other but, there is no way in Yuma a Democrat gets elected in Yuma.

  • BTW, his wife just denied the allegation that SHE filed 28 years ago. For the record she has just admitted PERJURY. Either she lied on the affidavit or she’s lying now. Let’s see if the “God and Country” candidate can clear up which lie we’re going with?

  • I wanted to make sure my website is available to readers since my name was used, www.ElectJudah.com.
I am sure that they are not happy that people have another choice in the general. That choice is a moderate democrat who looks pretty good right now with what the alternatives are. I have been accused of being a moderate to conservative democrat. People ask why I have not registered republican, they say it would have been easier in 18. I have never taken the easy route. I have always taken the road less traveled (Anyone Robert Frost fans).
I am democrat because limited government has a place. Just as it was said by our founders, if men were angels there would be no need for government. I am for strong families, limited taxes, accountability and responsibility from those who are on public programs. I am a strong advocate of education and safety.
Remember Mesa to vote your interests and those of your family this year and not just vote on party loyalty. I will not let you down. Judah Nativio
