Weather Vane McCain
Despite being against initiatives to roll back affirmitive action in the past, calling such efforts “divisive,” John McCain announced this morning that he is in support of Arizona’s deceptive anti-affirmitive action initiative.
At what point does the press stop calling this guy a maverick? When do they stop saying that he sticks by his principles?

Can an endorsement for the same-sex marriage ban amendment be far behind? The NY Times reported this week that he’s decided to treat Arizona as a state that’s “in play” because young people, minorities and new residents don’t know him. I suspect they also know Barry Goldwater, who was far more popular in the state in 1964 than McCain is today, only carried Arizona by 4,782 votes against LBJ in another year where Democrats had a lot going for them nationally.
To paraphrase McCain’s theme last week: This candidate would rather lose the integrity of his word than lose an election.

Since you brought up Goldwater, Steve:
“I don’t care if a soldier is straight so long as he shoots straight.”
- Goldwater, ca 1988(?)

McCain is a joke. I wake up in a nightmare every day to the fact that there are people in this country that seriously think the guy is running for president.

One John McCain’s “divisive” is another John McCain’s “get out the bigot vote”.

But didn’t you hear? Bigotry doesn’t exist anymore..a bunch of straight white guys said so…
oh yeah, and Ward Connerlly, who’s riding this one all the way to the bank.
How low can John McCain go? Maybe he’ll start saying he passed out Bibles in the POW camp.

Actually, bigotry does exist for them. It’s the horrible injustice that Chris Rock gets to use the N word while they don’t. I wish I were kidding but I’m not. I’ve heard more sturm und drang over this affront to white male dudeliness than I can even quantify. Far as they are concerned that is PROOF that the pendulum has swung too far.
