Something About that Fundraiser Just Didn’t Click

Daniel Scarpinato noted in his Political Notebook column that local potentate Jim Click was not present at that fundraiser for Tim Bee held by George W. Bush.

This would be a bit weird, I mean, Click was one of those oft noted “pioneers” that raises money for the president. You’d think he’d be excited to see Bush in town. Heck, you’d think that he probably had a lot to do with his coming down.

The rumors are that Click’s support may be another casualty of Bee’s actions in the closing hours of the session on the gay marriage bill. To hear the bill, Bee had to shelve action on the bill that local leaders (including Click) wanted to authorize a new tax to build spring training facilities here in Tucson. The talk is that Click was very displeased with Bee, given how much of Click’s reputation was on the line.

Nothing to worry about, right? And Boston isn’t a big college town…

NB - I’m sure that Click, in expressing his regrets, was the height of etiquette.

  • Ted,
About the only thing you got right Click was not present. Some of his family members and special guests were present and were introduced by the President. Put this in prospective, Jim Click was part of the biggest fundraiser Arizona has ever seen what more do you want him to do?

I followed the link “the height of etiquette”. I haven’t met Carrie in person, but the photo made me do a double-take!
BTW, the piece on Sweeney made me LOL! Thx!

  • Yeah, this is interesting. I would like to raise the question of what Tim really brought S. Arizona in this past legislative round? Give it to me…credit claim…somebody tell me what he says he did for us?

One thing he seems to say is that he supported the Governor rather than Weiers, saving us worse cuts than we got…but did he deliver anything?

No sports authority…University is taking a MAJOR hit…

Walt, can you help? Set me straight…I just dont see what he did for us, and what he might have done for us, flies in the face of what conservatives wanted.

    Am I wrong?

  • I live in a town in which the other precinct committeman is named Jim Click. He was the Navajo county sheriff back about thirty years ago.

And he is a good Democrat.

And don’t offer to trade me Jim Clicks, because we’ll keep ours, thank you very much.

  • hahahahah Eli!

  • No problem, all your questions will be answered when Tim debates Gabby. She will debate him won’t she?

  • Well my goodness, I figured you would know Walt.

  • Walt S.,

Do you mean that Tim Bee’s legislative accomplishments as senate president are secret, pending release at some later date? I know that he personally and single-handedly allowed a constitutional amendment based on bigotry and hatred, and in the spirit of persecution and the denial of equal civil rights, to more forward toward adoption. Any other major accomplishments; if not, would you care to defend the one I cited?

  • Walt-

Of course she’ll debate Tim Bee, just as she debated her opponents in the last election. Calm the heck down.

  • I agree Ted. I am sure Bee will want to debate her about 50 times and then the campaign will call her chicken for only wanting to do so 3 times.

  • Ted,
I’m glad you brought this up. If you remember she didn’t debate the Republican Candidate two years ago but sent her surrogate that read from a campaign talking points paper.

  • Walt: Really? Because I seem to recall being part of a debate on “Arizona Illustrated” with Giffords, Graf and Nolan. Maybe I imagined the whole thing?

  • Giffords and Graf debated several times, including an event I attended at Flowing Wells HS, which was sponsored by various education organizations. I also recall reading about a debate that occurred in one of the other counties. Randy’s right-wing talking points fell flat on each occasion, as Tim’s will this time around, even though he is a pretty gifted speaker.

What surprises me is the lack of advocates and defenders the Republican has in 2008. Two years ago, there were plenty of people in the blogosphere and the letters columns of the newspapers either touting Randy or trashing Gabby. This time around, folks like Walt are not heard quite as often. This may point to an overall lack of enthusiasm within the GOP, or a lack of support for Tim, who has been so busy straddling fences and trying to please everyone that no one can say where he truly stands.

  • Tim Bee Schmeembee. The man is rude just like the rest of the Arizona legislators. Starting at the top these bozos have no respect for the office they hold or the ones others hold. It’s an us against them game and Bee, at the lead, didn’t stop the childishness. But hey what does one expect from a state that re-elects the same clowns into office over and over again. I believe it was the late George Carlin who said that politicians are a reflection of who we are as a society. It’s no wonder I am always so terse on these boards.
