Going Viral

I was a bit surprised at how the post I put up on Tuesday morning ended up causing such a stir. By the afternoon, it ended up on Huffington Post, Feministing, TAPPED (who misspelled Tucson), Shakesville and Think Progress, which are major national liberal blogs. It also made the Daily Dish, written by constantly frustrated conservative Andrew Sullivan.

Something interesting about the Huffington Post story: they actually bothered to call a local political reporter who had covered John McCain. Mark down last Tuesday on your calendar: this looks like the first time a national reporter, either now or in 2000, bothered to call a reporter from Arizona to find out if McCain’s record in his “home” state matches his rhetoric and reputation in Washington.

Anyway, as I was poking around, I ran across this post from über-blogger Taylor Marsh. Someone sent her a link to my post, so I figured that she was the one that blasted it out (she often writes for Huffington Post). But, looking again, it seems like she got this after everyone else did. Cue the relief on my face that I don’t have to admit that Taylor Marsh helped spread the story.

I tried to “crosspost” over at DailyKos, but the comments about the post seemed to be dominated by people who didn’t like my title. Quickly, my “diary” scrolled off of the list. As it turns out, the story had already been at Huffington Post hours before I put it up on Daily Kos.

So, I’m still curious about how this thing made it off of my blog and into the larger “political blogosphere” (I even made National Review Online. Must be because of my liking of the Blackford Oakes novels). Someone tipped someone, eh, who knows?

The story also made Countdown and even Weekend America. On Weekend America, I was just refered to as “a blogger.” Geez, you’d think the name of the blog was hard to say.

  • ThinkProgress posted it first, HuffPost followed. Olbermann takes a lot of his stuff from those blogs.

  • I know I was impressed. Our little Ted is all growed up.

  • Whatever…the real Tedski fans read Ted’s Polish Mexican Page. R3 is just for the Tedski hack, if you want to know the man behind the myth the Polish Mexican is where it is at.

  • Real fans of Ted read his even more rare to see Myspace blog.

Which usually is a rip off of his Polish Mexican blog but not always.
