Bee Denies Democrats Use of Room, for Totally Bi-Partisan Reasons, I’m Sure…

I just recieved this press release from the Senate Democratic Caucus. I’m making some calls so I can have details for y’all later:

STATE CAPITOL, Phoenix – President Tim Bee denied Senate Democrats the ability to use a public hearing room to hear from constituents and industry representatives on the mortgage crisis in Arizona.

“I am greatly disappointed that President Bee does not want Arizonans speaking about the compounding mortgage crisis in their public Senate building,” said Sen. Debbie McCune Davis.

A formal request was sent to the President’s office by Senate Assistant Minority Leader Senator Jorge Luis Garcia (D-Tucson) yesterday.

The request reads:

“I respectfully request the use of Senate Hearing Room 1 on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the purposes of holding an informational hearing with industry representatives and constituents on the mortgage crisis in Arizona. Thank you for your consideration of the use of the hearing room, especially to allow members to hear directly from constituents on a matter that is of great importance to our community.”

“President Bee’s office conditioned any use of the room on making Sen. [Pamela] Gorman’s voluntary loan originator registration bill a main highlight and including her and Sen. Huppenthal in the discussion,” Sen. Jorge Luis Garcia.

“The forum is open to the public. All legislators are welcome to come and participate in this event that we are hosting. The conditions stated by the Senate President’s office are unreasonable and attempts to control the agenda and limit our ability to fully understand the issue and help constituents find the assistance they need,” said Sen. McCune Davis.

The event will instead be held in the Executive Tower.

“We are also grateful to Governor [Janet] Napolitano for releasing a previously scheduled reservation reserved by her office for the same evening,” said Sen. McCune Davis.

The mortgage forum will be held on Tuesday, June 3 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of the Executive Tower at 1700 W. Washington St. For security purposes, attendees would need to be in the doors by 5:00 p.m.

  • Hell, just do it on the Capital Lawn and invite the national press.

  • Sounds like someone got a wrench thrown in their political stunt, which is all this “hearing” was.

Why don’t you ask the Governor and her AG why they allowed all of the illegal loans, mortgage fraud and illegal home over-valuation schemes to go on for almost five years without investigating and prosecuting a single individual?

Or better yet, while were on the topic of political stunts, lets have a hearing about the back room dope deal the governor did with the Arizona Home Builders Association.

I agree, have the meeting on the grass and invite the press.

  • Blame the Governor and the AG for not stopping this? Are you serious Spartan or just not understanding how our government works?

Let’s not forget that it is the Republican party that continues to put the majority of ill equiped people into office, including people who have personal interests in screwing the public with their privaately owned dirty financial businesses.

Pull your head out of the sand. We are ALL to blame for the state of things, especially the majority party that has sat in the state legislature for years allowing all sorts of scandals to occur while focusing only on their special interests.

  • GOP Spartan was too busy watching gladiator movies to pay attention.

  • The AG is solely responsible for consumer protection and investigating mortgage fraud in the state. It has nothing to do with “Republicans.”

The Governor has control over DPS, which also has a white collar crimes unit. Again, it has nothing to do with “Republicans.”

They are the constitutionally elected senior law enforcement officers for the state. Arizona has the 2nd highest rate of mortgage fraud in the country; the highest rate of identity theft in the country, and one of the highest sub-prime loan markets in the country.

I guess it was Joe Arpio’s or Russell Pierce’s fault.

If you really want to assign blame, lets take a look at who pushed Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac to push loans to unqualified people.

Who was it that pushed private lenders to increase the number of loans to lower income groups, even if they had bad credit?

Now I must get back to my gladiator movies, they’re just getting ready to flood the coliseum for a mock naval battle!

  • The problems we face today has everything to do with Republicans–and Democrats, and Independents, and no party registered and non-registered voters. Yes, even the apathetic non-voters are to blame for their lack of participation. Being a cheerleader for a party is so 10 mins ago, and it needs to stop.

Assigning blame doesn’t resolve diddly and only makes people defensive. We are all to blame–polititians are reflections of who we all are, like it or not.

Remember, when you point a finger at me, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you.
