WORLD EXCLUSIVE!
I was chagrined yesterday when I saw that after Barack Obama had met with Gabrielle Giffords, Gifffords rzecznik C. J. Karamargin had given Greg Sargent the news that Giffords was, well, still officially uncommitted.
I mean, how am I supposed to keep up my reputation as a Giffords toady if these people give their exclusives to other blogs? Will I have to start singing “Possum Kingdom”?
That’s okay. Today, Hillary Clinton’s campaign sent a Power Point presentation to House Democrats. So, I called Karamargin so I could get the earth shattering, exclusive news about the results of this move.
She’s still uncommitted. Film at ten.
NB – Yes, I made the “Possum Kingdom” joke only a few days ago. Only one of you got it, so I’m doing it again.

The Possum Kingdom reference works on a couple of levels. Nice work.

When you sit on the fence you get splinters in your butt. It is nice to see Gabby is such a decisive person; one who can make the tough decisions.
May 9th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I thought that Gabby already endorsed McCain.
May 9th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Oh such trash talk about our wondeful Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
It’s politics people and no one who reads these blogs is naive about how it all works. Gabby’s constituents overwhemlingly voted for Hillary, but the Deocratic Activists who work on her campaign supported Obama.
What is a girl to do when her two best friends are at odds with each other?
Tell them they both look great in that dress, let them know you wish you had one, and then avoid them until you absolutely have to confront them.
Women totally understand–get with the program guys.
May 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
No, Bridget, women do not totally understand.
BTW, silly talk is as meaningless as trash talk.
It’s been awhile since Arizona has voted and in the interim, Hillary Clinton has run a “gutter campaign” against Barack Obama, to use the words of Bill Richardson.
However, I don’t expect Ms. Giffords to get this one right. I gave up on her a long time ago.

While Congresswomen Giffords has many good qualities [brains, policy knowledge, support for alternative energy, reasonableness--heck, I support her and have already donated to her reelection campaign], I have not gotten the impression that intense political courage is one of them. In particular, I remember the media question of releasing her earmark list….
May 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
However, my statement is not fair. How many politicians in unsafe districts show intense political courage? Giffords will make many of her Clinton-supporting supporters angry if she endorses Obama, and the majority of Democratic primary votes went to Clinton in her district. She would do best to wait until the race is really over to cast her vote.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Gretchen…
Uh…yeah!!!!! On your last post. She gains jack by committing now…nothing…zero…period. Those Obama supporters, me included, will be pissed if she committs to Hillary…Hillary supporters will be pissed if she committs to Obama. She is up for re-election in a difficult district. There is no point in “taking a stand” when the rest of America doesn’t appear to want to.

Small typo: Barack Obama’s name is misspelled “Barrack” in the
first sentence above.
May 10th, 2008 at 7:07 am
The extra “r” is for “Ardor”…sort of.
That’s the best I can do. It’s fixed now.
May 10th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Is HRC serious with that powerpoint? Winning the Democratic primary — whether in the “16 most competitive districts” or anywhere — says almost nothing about one’s ability to win that district in the general.
Here’s another way of putting it: “in the districts where winning over the independent voters are the most important, I’m the favorite of the Democratic party members.” Yah-freakin-hoo!
May 11th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Thanks for the correction. Remember that “barrack” is also a verb, as in “to house in military barracks.”
May 11th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I agree with Bridget and kralmajales, although Bridget gets bonus points for being both right and funny at the same time. I’m a fairly active Obama supporter myself, and have no problem with Congresswoman Giffords staying out of the race at this point. She shows respect for her constituents who support Sen. Clinton, and she shows respect for Sen. Obama by refusing to endorse Hillary, which implicitly endorses Barack. This is another example of the congresswoman demonstrating that she understands the complexities of her district.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Barack Obama will get the nomination with or without the vote of Ms. Giffords who will vote based on political expediency. I fully expect her to vote for Hillary Clinton.
It is time for the Democratic party to move forward. It is time, past time actually, for Hillary Clinton to exit the race and allow the contender with the most pledged delegates and popular vote to become the nominee.
It is time for the lady who flippantly states she would “obliterate Iran,” a nation of 70 million people, TO GET THAT SIZE 14 ASS ONTO A PODIUM SOMEWHERE AND MAKE A CONCESSION SPEECH.
Delete my comment, Tedski, I really don’t care.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Um, Liza, have I ever deleted your comments?
May 12th, 2008 at 6:48 am
Hey, Redski, neither you or your posters ever once mentioned that Barack Obama has a middle name.
It’s “Hussein.”
No mention of the Reverend Wrong either. Clearly, you are a tool of the LIEberal media.
I am wearing my flag pin, are YOU?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
…so help me Jesus.

REPUBLITARD–
Which flag?
May 13th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Liza,
You are hysterical with your blind support for Barack Obama, and please understand and take back to your progressive home-ees, that it is emotional wrecks like you who are driving long time Democrats away from the party they once felt had their values in mind. I will not be supporting Obama in the general election and Democrats who feel like I do are abundant. The party is fractured and your nasty comments are part of the reason why.
In a light manner, I explained this above, but again your nasty, righteous attitude spoiled it because your inability to read between the lines–so now I am being blunt so you and people like you start to get it.
In the last 25 years the ONLY person the Democrats have been able to get elected to the presidency, twice, has been Bill Clinton. His & his wife’s approval ratings cross over to Republicans where, as the polls in this state are already showing, Obama doesn’t have the same appeal, in fact in Arizona he loses. The scenario of Obama’s performance in Arizona is most likely the same in other states although I don’t know how bad–but in the general elections a loss is a loss.
For many of us, Obama isn’t appealing and allowing McCain to have the presidency for 4 years means the Dems still have a chance 4 years from now to seat Hillary.
Rev. Wright, Tony Rezko, and Obama’s inability to answer questions on the fly are just a few of the reasons why the R’s won’t go for him. Make no mistake my rude-not-so-bright little friend, the Dems will lose again with an Obama nomination regardless of how you try to convince yourself otherwise.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Bridget,
Your post is about what I would expect from a Hillary supporter. Since she is engaged in the “politics of personal destruction,” why should those who worship her be any different?
Sorry to disappoint you, but I am not hysterical nor am I an emotional wreck and I am also not rude and nasty. Hillary Clinton is the one who made her campaign into a “gutter campaign” to quote Bill Richardson and that makes her fair game. In fact, prior to her gutter campaign, I was fairly close to neutral toward her except for her positions on foreign policy. However, I felt that both Edwards and Obama were superior candidates.
Anyhow, Bridget, I have just one comment to make in response to your little rant and that is that it is Hillary Clinton who is solely responsible for splitting the Democratic base.
It is Hillary Clinton who relentlessly trashed Obama since she came in third in Iowa and she has now lost the African American vote. She is also trying to drive a wedge between working class whites and the rest of the party, essentially claiming they will only vote for her.
Hillary Clinton, nor any other Democratic nominee, could be elected without the AA vote. Hillary Clinton will never be the president of the US, not in 2008, and not in 2012 as you suggest, Bridget.
Anyhow, Bridget, I did not spoil your original comment because it was not cute and it was not funny, as you seem to think. Here’s some advice. Don’t try to be cute and funny because it just doesn’t work for you.
Oh, yeah, neither I nor my “progressive homees” give a fat rat’s ass who you vote for in November. We are well aware that people like you are out there and guess what? Obama is winning.
So shove that into your shapewear, Bitch.
May 13th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Meeee-ow! Get these cats a saucer of milk!
May 14th, 2008 at 2:32 am
Liza–and I thought you said you weren’t rude and emotional.
Thanks for making my point. Try not to pop a vein over all of this deary. It is, afterall, politics.
May 14th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Bridget, do not flatter yourself that someone like you affects me in any way whatsoever.
What I noticed is that your own little rant seemed kind of emotional. Perhaps you are projecting your own hatred for Obama and his supporters upon them. Furthermore, telling me that I am “not so bright” is generally what people resort to when they haven’t a leg to stand on.
There is a lot I could say about what you have revealed about yourself, Bridget, but I will just mention that your comments about Obama seem to align you with “Republitard” who commented above.
Enough said.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Liza, you made me snort coffee with that ’shapewear’ remark.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Dynamite drop-in, Jim.
I kind of liked Bridget’s original post, but then she lost me.
1) Which polling are you looking at that suggests Hillary has now (or has EVER had) enormous crossover appeal?
2) Obama has a national lead over McCain that is hovering around 7 points.
3) You would keep our troops in Iraq just so HRC could ascend to the oval? Or risk a new court overturning Roe v. Wade?
May 14th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I would like to bet that if we held the AZ primary today the numbers would be just a little bit different because as the majority of the polling has shown it is H. Clinton who carries the “blind support” based solely on name recognition and the reputation of her husband. It seems as if time truly is on our side.
And why is it that currently anyone who supports Obama is criticized by both HRC and the Repubs as being trendy little Liberal sheep? (Well, it looks like Obama really is a uniter ) When in reality we have finally found a leader that holds all the same qualities we have been desperately looking for. Someone who is sick of divisive politics. Someone who will be able to walk into the White House and will be able to look at all the tasks at hand with a new perspective that hasn’t been tainted by the establishment. It will be nice for a leader to be ready on day one instead of being bogged down with all the favors that need to be repayed and lobbyists looking for handouts.
Give us some credit. Most of us had to do a lot of research to make sure that this would be the candidate for us and the next generation. To believe in him so much that we were not only willing to dig deep into our pocketbook but to also put in so much time working for this man we believe in. I don’t know how much campaigning you did for HRC but here in Tucson we had hundreds and hundreds of people willing to work months before the primary and not because of “blind support”. (omg *rant over*)

I’m new but, I worked on Giffords campaign in 06 (60 hours, phone-banking). Now on board for 08 ($100, 100 hours, and over 100 signatures for primary). I am also a huge Obama supporter from Sept 07 onward ($325, 100 phone calls, GOTV support, and answering questions to others on issues. I researched his policies and his past support. I read his bio and books. I find that his policy positions are nearly identical to mine; from the War – Solid democrat to the Nuclear power -Moderate democrat; from the Tax code-Good democrat to the support for changes in Education that the Teachers’ Union opposes (variations of incentive pay and limited charter school approval)-Moderate democrat. Thanks for calling people like me out as, “blind support”ers.
