Didn’t We Already Get Rid of this Guy?

The Tucson Citizen used to have an editor named Peter Bronson. His editorials were usually in that faux populist territory now also occupied by Bill O’Reilly and company. The thesis espoused in every one of his pieces was “Democrats are effete know it alls, as opposed to Republicans who are all working stiffs that throw back PBR while rooting for Dale Jr.” It never really got much better than that.

He left for Cincinatti (see CORRECTION below), of all places, years ago. For some reason, the Citizen feels the need to publish one of his columns once in a while, for old times sake, I guess. Yesterday’s was typical Bronson: the Democratic candidates are elitists while John McCain, son of an admiral and husband of an heiress, is a working stiff.

As evidence, he points to the charitable contributions of the candidates. According to his figures (helpfully printed by the Citizen in large print above the article), McCain gives an impressive 25% of his money to charity, while Hillary Clinton gives a paltry 10%. He plays a bit of a game with the math though. McCain’s percentage is figured out of only his personal earnings, while Clinton’s is figured including her husband’s earnings. A sin of ommission, doncha think? What would those figures be like if Cindy McCain’s income was included?

But aside from that, Bronson takes a cheap shot at Obama by implying that Obama had a maid clean his dorm room at Harvard (While of course, real man Bronson admits that nobody ever cleaned his dorm). I actually have a buddy that works in the public affairs office at Harvard (see, going to those Revs games helps me network), he refered me to the office at Harvard Law School (the offices are separate). Turns out, they don’t have maids. They do have common restrooms that are cleaned by janitorial staff, but that’s it. Yep, common restrooms, like you’d find at a -gasp- state college.

The woman I talked to pointed out that Harvard Buisiness School provides maid service for its students. What sort of effete snob would go there?

CORRECTION: The original version of this post misidentified Bronson’s current home as Cleveland. R-Cubed regrets the error.
