Wah, Wah, Wah…

Here’s a bit of a follow up to something I wrote last week on a silly letter sent by friends of Lori Oien complaining about Rodney Glassman for, um, going to a bar once or twice I think. After reading this bit on Saturday, I am so glad we didn’t elect Oien to the City Council. Apparently, MADD, a group she used to lead, should do what they can to alienate elected leaders if they commit the sin of running against her for office. Even worse if they talk to people who defeated her.

Shame on MADD for actually, you know, reaching out to people and stuff.

It makes me wonder what sort of petty silliness she would have pulled against enemies and percieved enemies if she would have been elected to the city council.

  • Sure did look like a bit of sour grapes.

  • The “silly” letter you are referring to came from former directors and volunteers of MADD. It seems they had a problem with the way Glassman was invited. He first gave them a donation and curiously got invited as a speaker. I think Glassman’s published lifestyle had something to do with it also. Most of the signers of that “silly” letter had their lives changed forever by drunk drivers. They have the right to demonstrate in the only manner allowed them when they think a gross injustice has been done. Please don’t belittle them.

  • Walt:

No one “belittles” the good work done by MADD, but I think Tedski’s point was that the condemnation of Glassman by the Oien camp was based more on partisan politics.

Glassman deserves to be judged in the public arena by his performance in office, not by what he did in the private sector.

  • So, since we’re apparently holding restaurateurs and bar owners personally responsible for anything that their patrons might do after leaving their premises, can we do the same thing for gun dealers and gun shop owners?

  • Envy is a littleness of soul, which cannot see beyond a certain point, and if it does not occupy the whole space feels itself excluded. Hey Lori: Like it or not, he’s not just anyone out of our community, he’s our elected city official and he won by a landslide. And if that in any way, shape or form helps MADD’s cause, shouldn’t you be happy for MADD that they have his ear? Sun don’t shine on the same dog’s tail all the time.

  • Why is Oien’s name even mentioned?? it was not in the original letter from those past MADD board members, so why are you tying her to that.
They have a right to their opinions don’t they??
