The Last Thing I’ll Say About Delegate Strikes

I was talking to a Barack Obama booster the other day, and he noted that if he had been struck as a Hillary Clinton delegate, he’d be ticked off given how many folks who got left on their list couldn’t be bothered to actually show up to run.

I was taken aback by a couple of names they left on the list. One was Sue Laybe. I hadn’t seen that name in years since she was tossed out of the legislature in AZScam. It’s been a long time, so heck, let her run for delegate. At least she showed up.

The other that made me laugh a wee bit was Jarret Maupin. Here Clinton and her supporters toss aspersions at Obama for his supposed ties to folks they think the voters would find unsavory, and this is the guy they want representing their candidate in Denver? Obama had to “denounce and reject” Louis Farakhan, a man he only has the most casual ties to, but the Clinton campaign picked the guy known as “Kid Sharpton” as someone to represent their campaign over dozens of other supporters?

Heck, there are times that Maupin makes Rev. Jeremiah Wright look like St. Francis.

Maupin didn’t show up (I’m assuming he didn’t, I didn’t see him and he ain’t much of a wallflower), and he lost his bid to be a delegate.

I was there. The delegate selection process is a democratic one and the elected delegates our caucus is sending to Denver will do a fine job of representing Candidate Clinton. About the comments relating me to Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, or even Al Sharpton… First, the “Little Al Sharpton” tag was given to me by an msnbc reporter who followed my work on his presidential campaign. Second, I have nothing to do and DO NOT support the works of Farrakhan. Third, Jeremiah Wright is a racist and has hurt YOUR presidential candidate with his Black Nationalist rhetoric. I have never advocated for Black Nationalist views/politics. I am a civil rights leader in the traditional of Martin Luther King Jr. and advocate for ALL PEOPLE. Social Justice requires its advocates to be “humanity sensitive”. I consider myself to be that. I have fought for the civil/human rights of ALL PEOPLE, and have NEVER considered the color of their skin before I took a stance supporting them against whatever injustice they are fighting. In parting, you are absolutely right I’m no wall-flower. So next time I cross your criticism cross-hairs or if you feel inclined to render an opinion about me, you should call. I enjoy substantive dialogue. My cell phone number can be googled. Until then, good luck to your presidential pick and rest comfortably in the knowledge that I will support him 100% IF he is our party’s nominee.
