Or Harrison Ford, For That Matter…

In a totally unexpected encounter at the gym yesterday, I ran across Richard Kimball. Kimball is a former member of the Corporation Commission that was the Democratic nominee for United States Senate back in 1986. He was beaten by, um, hmm…whatever happened to that guy that beat him?

Anyway, after retiring from elective politics, Kimball ran an organization called the Center for National Independence in Politics, which then spawned Project Vote Smart. Project Vote Smart collects information from candidates for president, senate, congress and even state legislature in an effort to make such information easy for voters and the press to access without the spin and obfuscation that often happens in campaigns. Unfortunately, not enough candidates choose to return the organization’s questionaires. They should, because they’ll find that there is not one question on flag pins. Just to toot my own horn, I did when I was a candidate last go ’round.

Oh, Kimball looks nothing like David Janssen.

  • Because they don’t return their candidate profiles, Project Vote Smart has invested a lot of time and money into recording voting records along with the interest group ratings.

It is pretty easy, between the two to find out where people stand most of the time.
