Sounds Like a Fantastic Idea!
The announcement was supposed to be Friday, but folks were actually expecting it today. That’s right, Ken Bennett will be back in the race for congressional district 1. As we all know, CD 1 is the size of Pennsylvania.
The story goes that the mahouts have been talking to Bennett for a couple of weeks. When Kris Mayes got wind of it, she dropped out. One of the folks who lured Bennett back in was John Shadegg. Given his “I’m in, I’m out, I’m in” saga earlier this year, I don’t know if he’s necessarily the guy to be doing congressional recruiting, but what do I know?
I’m not sure what exactly was the reason that these guys didn’t like Mayes. If the trouble was that she dragged her feet on announcing, then I don’t know how recruiting a last minute candidate would be any better. It doesn’t say much about their confidence in Sydney Hay in any case.
Here’s what I’m wondering: are these pooh-bahs that begged Bennett to get back in the same ones who were counselling him not to run before? During the run up to Bennett’s announcement last time, I recieved e-mails from two Republican muckety mucks who wanted me to know what a bad idea they thought Bennett’s candidacy was. Whatever troubles Mayes would have had with the insider trading allegations pale in comparison to Bennett’s sweetheart deals for his oil company and accusations of special treatment during his son’s recent legal troubles.
But hey, bring him on.
