Sauce for the Goose Department
Last week, the RNC sent out a typically handwringing press release demanding that Democrats who took contributions from Eliot Spitzer return them. I’m not sure about the logic of that one, since the money he made wasn’t illegal, he just spent it illegally. Heck, any money he contributed to Senator so-and-so’s campaign was less money he could spend on prostitutes. Democrats weren’t just taking campaign contributions, they were preventing vice.
But hey, let’s buy the argument there. This means of course, that Republican politicos should return their contributions from curb crawler David Vitter, doncha think? The Center for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington is demanding just that. The list of beneficiaries of Vitter’s baksheesh includes Orrin Hatch and Mitch McConnell. It also includes our own junior Senator, Jon Kyl.
So, is Kyl going to return his contribution? I have a feeling that will happen around the same time that Vitter’s colleagues demand he resign the way Spitzer did.
