New Superintendent for TUSD

Liz Celania-Fagen, a regional superintendent for the Des Moines Independent School District, has been chosen to be the next superintendent for TUSD.

I only note this because I had a couple of people who consider themselves so “in the know” insist to me over the last couple of weeks that the fix was in for Rick Myers.

NB - Interestingly, it was a lawsuit against the Des Moines Independent School District that produced the famous Tinker decision that affirmed the free speech rights of high school students. This happened five years before Celania-Fagen was born, however.

  • Tedski,

The fix was in for Myers. He had it. Certain folks took exception and spoke out.

    It worked.

  • I just saw Mr. Myers. I overheard him saying “Gosh darn it! I had it in the bag and then that x4mer ruined it for me! We could have had it all!”

I would have someone else start my car for me for a little while.

  • Helen,

    Oh ye of little faith!

I have it confirmed via several emails, and all I did was provide a place for others to post. Of course, his remark about “certain cultures” provided the critical fuel, and he said it.

Where I live is published. I’m not too enthusiastic about old age anyway.

  • Tedski, thanks for covering TUSD. I thought you had forgotten about it!

I think both candidates brought a lot to the table and either one would have been a welcomed edition to the district. That having been said, it would be nice if someone who had a background in both business AND education were to step up to the plate.

  • Dr. Elizabeth Celania-Fagen is the best thing that has happened to TUSD in decades. She is exactly what the district needs and will do an outstanding job. TUSD definitely has a winner in Dr. Celania-Fagen!
