In Other News, Col. Custer Is Touting His Leadership at the Little Big Horn

I caught a snippet from John McCain’s speech to the Center for National Policy, a socially conservative think tank. He is still trying to reassure social conservatives that he is one of them. One of the things he brought up was that he led an effort to amend the Arizona Constitution to ban gay marriage.
If the Senator spent a little more time in Arizona, he’d know that that initiative failed. Not only that, it is still the only such effort to fail nationwide. I’m not sure I’d be bragging about that one.
NB - “Led” here is apparently defined as “Put his name on the letterhead.”

Yes, Mr. Straight Talk would NEVER make that claim at a speaking engagement here. Left-leaning Independents need to be made aware that McCain is working both angles — lifelong Episcopalian, yet a member of North Phoenix Baptist; a moderate Republican who hangs with the wingnuts., etc., etc.

One of my favorite things about Johnny Mac was his refusal to back W.’s constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. But then again I also liked his opposition to W.’s tax cuts for the wealthy and his principled stance against waterboarding. Next, you’re going to tell me that the Easter Bunny isn’t real either.
