He’s Back?
The current talk is that Bill Konopnicki is reconsidering a run for Congressional District 1. Hey, if it worked for John Shadegg…
If Rick Renzi ends up resigning, it would necessitate a special election in addition to the regular November election (you can’t get appointed to the US House). The thought is that Konopnicki could self-finance a campaign for both the special election and the general election, something important given how quickly things are changing here. One Democratic aspirant, Ann Kirkpatrick, has $400,000 socked away and could likely handle the expense of both elections, especially if her opponent is Sydney Hay.
I’m now regretting this title; it will probably end up as a blurb on Konopnicki’s campaign lit.

For some reason, I doubt Konopnicki will put “Tedski thinks that I’m not a total tool” in his list of endorsements.
Of course, it *would* add to his “cool” quotient, and he needs all the help he can get in that area. :))

Hopefully all involved will let Renzi stick it out until May so we can avoid all of this special election nonsense.
Less than six months until the next general and no special is required.

I’m embarrassed to have Rick Renzi ‘representing’ me. The sooner he resigns the better.
And andrew,
As for a special election, I’d like to see one ASAP because right now my so-called ‘representative’ serves on no committees, sponsors no legislation and is obviously pre-occupied with keeping his rear end out of the clink. Oh, and by the way if you are worried about wasting money, Rick Renzi is still getting paid more than $130,000 per year, plus expenses. That’s for doing exactly nothing.
He should have resigned a long time ago.

By the way, if Konopnicki does quit, does anyone want to come up here and run for the legislature? For a competitive district (I don’t think one party has controlled all three seats in well over a decade) it’s amazing how little attention people pay to the legislative races.

It does not matter how centrist, moderate, or reasonable he’s been in the state house. Once he’s elected to the US Congress, the Tom Delay types get to him and force him into fascist lockstepism for the rightwing agenda. They force you by withholding campaign funds if you don’t toe the line.
Sadly, many a moderate had to swing hard right to make the GOP elders happy. Hence the reaosn why there aren’t any GOP moderates anymore…save Chris Shays.
