Mike Pence Ruins Everyone’s Week

Jim Waring and Pamela Gorman put their anouncements on hold yesterday due to the possibility that John Shadegg might run anyway.

Shadegg, of course, was praised in a letter from 130 of his colleagues who wanted him reconsider his decision not to run. I wonder if decisiveness was one of the traits they liked.

Interesting (for me anyway) was that one of the mentioned candidates was Jordan Rose. If this keeps up, I suppose she will have to settle for knowing that she outpolled Ana Ma in that ASUA Senate race all those years ago.

  • Is this Jordan Rose person any relation to that Jason Rose person?

If so, then Jordan Rose will surely lose. Jason Rose is a dumbass douche of the highest order.

  • Jason Rose owns Nixon’s in Phoenix, no?

  • Nixon’s???

Must be a restaurant that has Watergate Salad as a house specialty

  • No. I think that Nixon’s has bologna, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce and leeks.

And you can play checkers while you’re eating.

Jordan is the wife of Jason. Back in the day – and only us OLD hacks like Ted and I know this – Jordan was actually a Democrat. She was actually a Clinton delegate in 1992.

Now she is one of the most successful zoning attorneys in the state and a rabid Republican. Her husband is Jason Rose, who does own a share of Nixon’s at the Esplanade but also owns half of Rose and Allyn Public Relations. They do PR for everyone from Barrett Jackson to Steve Ellman.

I highly doubt Jordan will give it a go. She had a baby last year and between that and her crazy work schedule she is pretty stretched. That said, if she does decide to do it she would be a formidable candidate and fundraiser.

I know her because I was the Democrat on a radio show with Jordan and the infamous Becky Fenger for a couple years – hosted by Charles Goyette. I always found her to be incredibly smart and funny – and always 100% wrong on every issue that matters.

  • Well, Bob Lord is still serious about helping Shadegg retire anyway.

Lord raised $600,000 and Shadegg got caught about a month ago illegally trying to launder money through his PAC to his campaign in order to skirt campaign finance laws.

Further, it is the end of the decade. Late in any decade ‘demographic creep’ erodes the formerly pristine lines of Republican districts and increases the percentage of Democrats in them (the flip side of the advantage that Republicans often get every decade due to redistricting.)

The unspoken truth here is that Shadegg hadn’t been seriously challenged in years and he probably doesn’t have the stomach to actually have to go out and campaign again. So regardless of what the national pundits think, Bob Lord has a serious chance of winning whether Shadegg runs again or not.
