Budget Shenanigans

One of my capitol correspondents reports to me that Appropriations Chair Russell Pearce will be presenting a new budget proposal tomorrow at a meeting. He hasn’t made any of the proposals, which could be dozens of pages long, available for committee members to peruse before the meeting. So, apparently, they are supposed to vote up or down on this thing based on his word and a quick scan of the bill.

My correspondent tells me that this is due to a “pissing match” (his words) between Speaker Jim Weiers and Pearce. I haven’t heard too much about this, but if, in fact, Weiers is tweaked at Pearce for some nonsense that he pulled, well, Mr. Weiers, you made your bed, now you gotta lie in it. Weiers accommodation of Pearce and his silliness has long been a criticism of his speakership. Pearce has the power he has largely because Weiers granted it to him. He can’t exactly be suprised that Pearce is an unhinged cabrón.

  • Those GOP legislators–

    wackjobs-R-them.

  • I keep hearing that the state Democratic Party is flush with cash, at least compared to the GOP in Arizona. I also recall the effective role state party mailers played in defining Al Melvin and David Jorgenson in LD26 two years ago, leading to the victories of Pesquiera and Saradnik.

Isn’t it time the state party use some of that dough to educate voters across the state about the “leadership” in the Legislature? That could only be of help to Democrats in November and I’m not sure those outside political junkiedom are aware of what total whackjobs these guys are!

  • Your lips to Maria Weeg’s ears, Rex.

Do ya think Pearce will be making a contribution to Jim Weiers for Congress?

  • Rex is so right! The biggest problem in this state…overwhelmingly…is that legislature. We need good people, with pragmatic ideas, that are forward thinking…from BOTH parties…to serve us. This year I want to support both democrat candidates and moderate GOPers like Hershberger, Burns, etc. People that believe that we have to spend a bit on infrastructure, school, kids, higher education, in order to create and attract jobs.

The damned legislature is filled, on one side, with ideologues…we have to get rid of them or send them a message.

I propose a PAC. One that donates to candidates, provides issue ads, and more importantly, does what Rex says.
