Pachyderm Scramble
You think that the Republicans were going to let things be easy for Bob Lord? Naw…
I just got an e-mail from a highly placed Republican muckety muck who noted that Speaker Jim Weiers lives in the now candidateless District 3 and is looking at a run. Other folks that may go for it include Pam Gorman and John Shadegg staffer Sean Noble. I was also told to watch for announcement from someone later today.
What would it mean if right in the middle of our budget mess, both the Senate President and House Speaker are running in hard fought congressional contests?
Oh…I’ve also been told to watch for Phil Gordon, who would no doubt have to figure out exactly which party he is a part of before he jumps in. Yes, I know…someone will write to me and say that was uncalled for.
NB - Yes, there apparently are Republican muckety mucks who read this here blog, and actually enjoy it. I am doing something horribly wrong. I am going to consult a priest.

Doesn’t Phil Gordon realize all the money in the world and a McCain endorsement would never sway activist Democrats in Phoenix to volunteer for him?

Sorry, I can’t resist….
Henceforth, all state budget negotiations will be conducted at the Hawk and Dove.
Someone needs to tell Mike Haener.

If Pederson doesn’t want to go up against Shadegg for Johnny Mac’s seat, I say we resurrect the Coppersmith for US Senate campaign! I still have some signs. Aww… memories.

Adam:
Unless she is in an Obama cabinet position, I’d consider Governor Napolitano pretty much guaranteed that she’ll get the Democratic nomination for the Senate if she wants it.

Who is the Assistant Secretary of State? I only ask because I have figured out a way to send 7 Democrats to Washington. A feat that has not been accomplished sine the Cardinals played in the Redskins’ division, by the way.
1) Johnny Mac resigns this summer.
2) The Gov appoints Jan Brewer
3) Jim Pederson wins the Senate seat (over Brewer or Shadegg)
4) The Gov serves as AG under Pres. Obama for his first term
5) The Gov returns to kick Jon Kyl out of his seat in 2012
President Obama, Governor Goddard, Senators Napolitano and Pederson, and Representatives Giffords, Grijalva, Lord, Mitchell, and Pastor. I have to stop typing now … keyboard soaked with tears of joy…

She will appoint Grant Woods who will agree not to run in 2010, in order to “grant” a clear path for the governor herself.

But Shadegg still runs for the seat in the special (general) election in November ‘08. The appointment of GW wouldn’t change that.
