Mayes Back In?

With the Republican heavy hitters out of the CD 1 race, word is out that Corporation Commissioner Kris Mayes has been talking seriously about getting back into the running. “Back in” may be a strong term, since it is hard for me to tell whether she was anything more than “mentioned.”

Something that will be amusing for me to follow from down here: how exactly the little gap in her resume gets spun. I mean, after graduated law school but before she got appointed to the Corporation Commission…where exactly did she work? I think it used to be on her resume. I have a feeling that nothing will be said about that except by Sidney Hay in the primary, but it will be all over the place in a general election.

  • where is this info from? did she get quoted somewhere or something? how does she get past the fact that she said she wasn’t interested in running just a few months ago? won’t that look bad, like she’s just doing it because nobody else is? boy the r’s are having a hard time with this one.

  • I am sorry, but I cannot stand Kris Mayes. The very definition of a political hack who will take any stand or say anything to get elected and to fill her huge ambitions.

At least Sidney Hoff Hay has some - albeit creepy - principles.

  • Not sure where this is coming from, but it’s pretty interesting. I really think Kris is staying with the ACC though given the threat of the strongest three candidates ready to undo her renewable energy standard. She’s really out to get APS and there are only two of nine ACC candidates supporting Kris’ RES legacy. But crazier things have happened. I mean, there was once a rising star reporter at The Republic who got caught selling her Gannet stock based on insider information.

  • The Renewable Energy Standard is worth BILLIONS to Arizona in investment and jobs. Most of the Republican candidates (and let’s face it, they have the best shot) are waffling or outright hostile to the RES.

People who care about this had better get organized, and quickly. Wong is good on the issue. McClure and Stump may be educated, but they need to be held to the fire on their positions. Robson says its more of a “goal” that should change with the economy (read, “I’m going to tear that thing down and blame the economy.”)

  • I am a little shocked to see D’s complaining about an R working for a D. Does that mean the D’s are a little scared of what that means for their candidates. What happens to the D candidates when the very popular governor won’t show up at their events because her former staffer is in the race and running as an R?
I think the guys south of the Gila should focus on Bee v. Giffords and let us northern az guys focus on CD 1.

  • I don’t know how any R could look at the CD1 field and not salivate. Big deal, K.M. changes her mind. A temporary ding for a likely great reward.

  • Clearly the D’s are nervous that Mayes will cut into some of Kirkpatrick’s base - Mayes is solid on the environment, and has been very friendly to the tribes and educators.

Mayes is clearly the best choice for the GOP if they want to keep the seat in Republican hands going forward.

  • Maybe, but IMO people up here are soured on having a Republican member of congress thanks to Renzi’s hijinks. Even Konopnicki realized that, which is why he backed out of the race.

Kirkpatrick is clearly the candidate best in tune with the voters here, and I’m proudly supporting her.

  • Kris Mayes is too tainted to be the Republican nominee. Democrats will work overtime to bring out more of her insider trading scandal and maybe the Arizona Republic will finally reveal the truth to her firing from her reporter job. Her ethics will come into question more and more since Rick Renzi finally got indicted.

She’s never answered a call or an email from me- why should I or anyone else vote for someone who doesn’t believe in constituent services??????

It gets even worse! I hear that Mayes tried to cover up her role in the Wham Paymaster Robbery by framing Winnie Ruth Judd for the murder of Don Bolles!

Yes…everyone knows it was Andrew Ridgley…
