Richardsonista Follow-up

I’ve been told not to read too much into the fact that Ed Pastor was not among the Bill Richardson supporters who are now signed on with Barack Obama. Apparently, he is out of the country and could not be contacted. One politico I talked to told me that he thinks the others who didn’t sign on were in similar situations and it is only a matter of time before they hop on board.

Dem - what the heck are you talking about? You can’t say something like that and then fail to back it up. What’s next, an email about him attending a madrasa?

    Good grief.

  • There are things about Obama that impress me. What concerns me are anecdotal reports that Obama won’t say the pledge of allegiance, won’t salute the flag, won’t take the oath on the Bible and won’t wear the flag on his lapel. If these things are not true, please disabuse me of this misconceptions. If not, I will not vote for him and maybe campaign for his adversary.

  • Oh, to back up my ‘claim’ I refer you to that radical right-wing site The Huffington Post.

Why didn’t BO have the guts to disavow his supporter’s claims? Why didn’t BO ever attend gay pride parades like Hillary and even Rudy have done? Why, if he doesn’t…hate the gays.

  • I stand corrected. Here is a link stating that he took the pledge and used the family Bible on his swearing in ceremony.

This is a story about him dropping the pin.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=3690000&page=1

He said: “You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.

“Instead,” he said, “I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.”

Okay Dem - read the Huffington blog - so yeah Obama has a gospel singer campaigning for him in SC who claims gays can be cured…that is a far cry from “hating” gays as you claim.

In fact, here is Obama on the record saying homosexuality is moral (in response to Peter Pace’s comments a while back): http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/mar/07031606.html

And, here is an entire PAGE on Obama’s website in support of the LGBT community, complete with transcripts from his speeches on the issues and downloadable information on specific policies that affect the LGBT community. http://pride.barackobama.com/page/content/lgbthome

I am not necessarily an Obama supporter, but I despise politicians and their supporters who will do anything, even lie, to win. America is sick of it to - and that is why Obama is doing so well.

  • As a politically active gay man, IMHO BO’s (and HRC’s) GLBT positions are about as good as I can hope for given the current political climate. Edwards’ are also about the same, except that his wife Elizabeth openly supports gay marriage. Can’t imagine Bill dropping THAT bombshell anytime soon.
It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that BO, after realizing how McClurkin preaches that sexual orientation is a choice than can be “cured”, decided to let him continue as a campaign spokesperson.

  • Stephen,

While I completely disagree with McClurkin’s position I can understand Obama’s decision to keep him on. McClurkin purpose as a spokesperson was to show that, despite policy disagreements, people of faith could unite behind Obama’s message. He was not meant to be a spokesperson for Obama’s positions on GLBTQ issues.

  • Richardson’s “great resume” is largely the result of Bill Clinton appointments. Just to say, the Clintons are holding a lot of chits.
