There is a bit of controversey in Willcox possibly ginned up by the Republican presidential primary. A Baptist church there displayed the phrase “Mormonism is not Christianity” on its markee. The community has a large Mormon population (one estimate is more than 700 of its 3700 residents), so this has raised a lot of hackles in the letters to the editor section of the Range News (here, here and here).
One friend of mine who has family in several southeast Arizona communities has said that similar messages have appeared on Baptist churches in other towns.
