I was going to be all snarky towards Howie Fischer after a piece he wrote ran this morning in the Star that mischaracterized Jack Harper’s bill to open up presidential primaries to independents. He neglects to mention that it effectively only opens up the Republican primary to independents, and he for some reason states that it would allow Democrats to vote in the Republican primary.
It is a confusing bill. I can see why he’d get it wrong. After all, Jim Waring didn’t understand it and he co-sponsored it.

Crawford even had to update hers after the print version to include the info on “flag burning”, Huckabee, and Waring being “floored” about it (guess he didn’t read the bill)

Ha. Now I just re-read your “letter to Huckabee”… I think we are all confused now!

The Arizona Daily Star used an early version of Howie’s story that was written before the bill was actually available for him to read. Capitol Media Services moved an updated version story that included the Republican-0nly angle once he had an opportunity to see it in black-and-white.

It’s kind - and illustrative - of you to ’splain that the Star used an earlier version of Howie’s story. (and if you’re who I think you are, kudos to your pub for getting this one right….)
But your ’splanation raises a few more questions.
1.Howe files stories on bills BEFORE HE HAS A CHANCE TO READ THEM?????
2. The Star runs his EARLIER version of the story but fails to note that he ran a CORRECTED VERSION?????
3. Didn’t Howie note in his second version that he actually took the trouble to read Harper’s bill, and now he was filing an ACCURATE story????
4. As the former and unlamented Star editer Steve Auslander used to say, WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THE EDITORS??????
Sorry for all the caps, but this is kinda ridiculous….
