Anderson: Gosh, Someone Should Do Something About That
I caught Arizona Spotlight on Friday. They had a piece about the tuition tax credit and its effect on public schools (full show here). The report pointed out that, suprise suprise, already wealthy schools have been the chief beneficiaries of the tax credits.
So, they interview Mark Anderson, one of the authors of the tax credit law. Anderson called the largess to wealthier schools an “unintended consequence.” It may have been “unintended,” but certainly not unforseen. Opponents of the plan warned that such a thing would happen at the time the plan was being debated.
(Tell me something, can a consequence be “unintended” when people are telling you what is probably going to happen if you pursue the course you are on?)
That aside, Anderson said something that I found silly:
I would have hoped that by now there could have been some effort made to create a fund that could help the lower income districts…but that hasn’t happened.
Gee, wouldn’t it be great if someone in the legislature do such a thing? Mark, you should talk to your state representative and…wait…you are a state representative, aren’t you?
