Yet More Reasons I’m Glad I Don’t Live in Maricopa County
I don’t read the New Times, at least not since they detailed that bizarre on-stage fight between Peter “Splat” Catalonotte and Chris Holliman at that River Roses show back in 1989.
Really, I don’t beacause it is a pale imitation of the Tucson Weekly.
Yes, I am saying that in the hopes that Jim Nintzel will buy me a drink next time he sees me at Hotel Congress.
Anyhow, a little bird alerted me to a recent story in the New Times about Joe Arpaio and Andrew Thomas. Geez. The two of them are worse than I thought.
I will not try to summarize the article; it must be read in its full flower. Suffice it to say that I can see why one friend of mine, an otherwise level headed attorney not prone to hyperbole, refered to Thomas as a “fascist.”
Say, can anyone out there who runs with Thomas and Arpaio tell me anything about their “ongoing investigation” of Terry Goddard for “accepting bribes”? I mean, it seemed so important a couple of months ago.

And WE, the people of Maricopa County, AZ are GLAD you don’t live here either Ted! LOL!

Nintzel never bought me nothin’ when I was down there. But I do take umbrage with the idea that The New Times is a pale imitation of the Tucson Weekly. Please tell me you at least acknowledge the great journalism that left - so to speak - when John Dougherty left? I mean, I think alternative mainstream press launched into the well, mainstream, with The New Times. The Weekly has always played second fiddle to The New Times. Sure, we don’t get to read indepth coverage of the NoTell Motel under a black light, but hey, we still have some fun. Well, maybe not in the last year, but I’m not in Tucson anymore.

I disagree with that assesment TonyGOP.
Ted would be a welcomed addition to any county he chose to live in.

Hey Nintzel: It’s time for you to buy the damn drinks!

Wasn’t Jon Dougherty replaced by Paul Parisi? Or was it Keith Bee?

The Weekly’s not all that. Unless you are *really* into the dark and seemy side of life, and the hopelessness of it all that seems to be so sophomorically chic amongst the writers there. And, Nitzel…I hope he gets voted high enough in their annual ‘get out town’ issue. He’s really a negative cheap shot windbag. Very few in the progressive community in Tucson takes him seriously.

If those two were in any line of work besides politics or having a rock and roll band, they’d be labelled as ‘bizarre and unstable.’
And rockers are supposed to be over the top.

That’s OK, Indy–conversely, very few people in Tucson take the progressive community seriously!

If that is truly your opinion, then you are way behind the curve…and frankly, most folks know that already.

If that is really your insightful observation, then you are frightfully behind the curve…and most folks know that already. Seriously, with you out of the political ‘commentary’ scene, we in Tucson might see some real positive change in both the candidates that would chose to run, and the policies they would engender. You need to go. And you need to go yesterday.
