“I’m Carson Daly, and I’m a Total Tool.”

Carson Daly has announced that he will be first late night talk show host to cross the picket lines (so to speak) and go into production despite the Writers’ Guild Strike.

Like I needed another reason to dislike the guy.

  • If I had ever watched his show, I’d stop now. I’ll never pause on Ellen again, either, when flipping through the channels.

  • I think the real news here is that Carson Daly’s show actually employs professional writers. Who’da thunk it?

Wow. I didn’t even know he still had a show.

  • Just when I thought his show sucked as much as a show can, it will now hit a new low.

  • Fuck that POS

  • Is he still on?

Ahhh….. isn’t the free market great? I see nothing wrong with getting rid of all of the writers and hiring new ones. I’m sure there are plenty of talented aspiring writers out there ready to fill their shoes. We may even see a major improvement in the quality of TV shows (Don’t I wish).

It reminds me of that fateful day when Ronald Reagan told the thugs of Air Traffic Controller’s Union, that tried to hold us hostage by threatening to shut down the United States’ air transportation system,… You’re Fired!!!!!

I’m programming my TIVO now… Go Carson Go!!!

    Viva la Liberty!

  • Before I launch into my diatribe against Mr. Lib…ertarian, I wanted to thank Tom-Az for sparing us from profanity by using the acronym “POS.”

The writers want to see a change in how their contracts are written so that they get paid fairly for the wealth they create for the people they work for. Basically, they want to set prices for what they produce. This is two private sector groups in the marketplace engaged in what amounts to a negotiation, albiet a somewhat dysfunctional one. One would think a “Lib…ertarian” would be in favor of what amounts to a free market process. Of course, none of us will be surprised when the studios run to our ostensibly free-market conservative White House crying poverty and demanding federal intervention to preserve the integrity of free-market capitalism.

The cheap shot about quality is rather amusing, since the worst that TV currently has to offer are un-scripted reality shows, which came on the scene in a big way several years ago in reaction to a potential writers strike. The best shows tend to be the ones where the creative staff has more control over the finished product. The worst are the ones dumbed down by the same studio management who is targeted by the strike. Bringing in scab writers is unlikely to improve the quality of formulaic crap like “Cavemen,” since the folks at the root of the problem are still running things.

I would also suggest that Mr. Lib…ertarian look at the results of what President Reagan, the former union boss, did to PATCO and the air traffic control system and the long-term damage caused by firing experienced workers and replacing them with what amounted to trainees, consequences that lasted well into the 1990s.

All the phony John Wayne swaggering makes for nice foootage and pithy remarks on blogs, but it would be nice to look into the substance of what happens and how what we do to people who work for a living not only affects their families but also our economy as a whole.
