Aw Shucks, We Are Just Humble Little Legislators…

Everytime there is one of these big busts of some corporate titan for malfeasance, there is something that I never get tired of seeing. It seems that when one of these guys gets busted, they claim that they didn’t know anything, that they were victims of some nefarious doings of the underlings. This is something that would be easier to buy if in their better days, they weren’t on the covers of Fortune and Barrons with 32 point type proclaiming how they are self-made go-getters who are totally in control.

Speaker WiresI thought about the same phenomenon today when I heard a bit on our local NPR affiliate about the attempt to hold legislative leaders personally responsible for the lack of action on the English Language Learner court order. Apparently, according to the story, neither Tim Bee nor Jim Weiers believe they should be held responsible for the lack of action from the legislature. After all, they don’t “control” the legislature.

Bumblebee ManInteresting theory. I guess this means that the next time the lege passes something, neither Bee nor Weiers will take any credit.

There actually were bills dealing with the ELL issue in this last session, but no action was taken on them. Couldn’t have been because leadership didn’t want action taken…I mean, they have no power to determine what bills get heard, right?

  • Admit it, those clowns have no real control over the legislative body. If they really DID have control, a certain long-haired rep from Tucson would have lost his ponytail!!

    :)

  • I hope Judge Collins offers the contempt order. Seven years!!!! It is clear that 7 years is stalling and that the leaders of this legislature are hoping to skirt it. They are, in fact, violating the Rule of Law. Which is worse immigrants sneaking across the border and violating immigration laws or a Republican led legislature DEFYING a court order for 7 years and allowing the tax payers to pay the fines imposed by the judge in the meantime. It is easy to tell which is more expensive.

I now wish that the students who sued the Board of Regents over tuition hikes would set their sites on the real culprits with regard to the cost of higher education in this state….again…the legislature.

We currently rank 2nd to last (We beat Wyoming!!!) on the per capita amount spent on student financial aid. Another quite conservative state, Georgia, is in the top 5 in student aid!

I wish the Democratic party would do a better job of getting out the message of what this crew has done to this state and to the services our taxpayers and their children rightly deserve.
