We Interrupt This Argument About CD 1 For This Announcement

The Yellowsheet is reporting that Russell Pearce will be forming an exploratory committee to take on Jeff Flake. According to Pearce, Flake is “treasonous” and a “hypocrite.” The Yellowsheet also quotes Pearce as saying Flake is “bad for America:”
I think Jeff Flake is bad for America. His policies are destructive to this nation. You can’t tell me you’re a conservative when you’re willing to push a bill through [and] partnering with Luís Gutierrez, the most liberal member of Congress, on a bill that will cost the taxpayers $3.9 trillion.

Oh, it would be too much fun to watch “No-neck Pearce” take on Jeff Flake! I hope it happens. Talk about your Peter Principle in action. Woohoo!

Luis Gutierrez is the “most liberal” member of Congress? What about Kucinich or Waxman? Oh, that’s right, they don’t have Spanish last names, so they are not as rhetorically useful.

Surprised he did not mention our own beloved Raul Grijalva actually as the “most” liberal member.

The language that Pearce uses is frankly shocking. If I were a Republican I would be ashamed of an elected member of my own party attacking in such a way against another distinguished member. Fine to challenge someone if you think they have the wrong message for you party, but this just seems to go too far.
If the Republican party is looking for a way out of the mess they put themselves into, and to become a majority party again, they are going to have to kill the the beast that Pearce and others represent.
Flake is no liberal…Flake is reasonable…and reason is something this party has clearly shed.

This is sweet justice. Flake and other so-called reasonable Republicans have subtly encouraged attack dogs like Pearce over the years because they get the activists fired up to boost turn-out and take on Democrats. However, they are now calling the shots in the Legislature and want more of the pie.
I doubt that Pearce has any more of a shot against Flake than Graf did against Kolbe in 2004. But, it’s well past time for Republicans like Flake to speak up against Republicans like Pearce. If their courage fails them, they will see their party become more strident, less appealing and frequently on the losing side in general elections.

Nicely said Rex. I completely agree with this statement:
“Flake and other so-called reasonable Republicans have subtly encouraged attack dogs like Pearce over the years because they get the activists fired up to boost turn-out and take on Democrats.”
Now they are kind of stuck with them in a sense. The best example of this, and related, is the over the top position of activists on illegal immigration and how it is turning off business. The party’s move toward some odd sort of populism will not win them elections or the ability to govern.

Great insights all the way around. Any Dems in the wings that may be able step in, if the primary gets brutal? Or am I just wishful thinking.
