A Ruse By Any Other Name…

Some baboso decided to use a year old post on here to take a few potshots at local political consultant Andrew Meyers and his best girl, Lauren Harmon. I can’t exactly complain about someone pitching stones at folks when I do it all the time. Heck, it is a big part of the reason why y’all are here.

But, here was the part that steamed me: the guy signed it “Paul E,” which I interpreted as an attempt to pin the whole thing on local Democratic pooh-bah Paul Eckerstrom. Eckerstrom worked with Myers and Harmon on the Patty Weiss campaign, and considers the two of them friends. Eckerstrom himself, concerned that someone would think that he wrote the comment, called me up to assure me it wasn’t him. I had already figured it wasn’t.

Pseudonyms are fine (I use one myself), but trying to pass yourself off as someone else is positively reptillian.

By the way, “Paul E,” next time you do this, it may be a good idea not to use your county computer.

  • Thanks Ted for letting people know this was not me. I was very upset that someone would do this. I am very close to Andrew and Lauren and think the world of them. They are both talented politically and more importantly are good people. I especially do not appreciate someone using my name to disparage them. If you have something to say, don’t hide behind someone else’s name and reputation. That is just pure cowardice.
    Paul Eckerstrom

  • Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since her switch. While I disagree with a lot of the reasons she switched because some of those quotes she gave like shooting we all want to shoot illegals or whatever are rather ridiculous, she switched and more power to her. I enjoyed my time working with her while we were CR’s together and I know she works hard for whoever she’s with now. It just sucks that some people can’t let things go.

  • The post was from a county computer? Any chance it was a friend of Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall, who is widely expected to face a primary challenge from Eckerstrom?

Is someone trying to ruffle feathers in a primary electorate that doesn’t seem too happy with the incumbent?

  • Paul — Andrew Myers is “good people”? Myers was a key player in spreading false rumors to journalists and bloggers about Gabby’s personal life during last year’s primary. While Gabby’s campaign stayed on the issues, Myers repeatedly swam in the muck of desperately trying to smear a fellow Democrat’s name by trying to fan the flames of false personal gossip. That is stepping over the line that all Dem operatives should adhere to. Gabby, her supporters, and her allies will never forget how low Andrew sank during the primary.

    Just for the record.

    Roger and out, good buddy……

  • Roger and out:

You should provide citations and quotes to back up your charge against Andrew.

Which journalists did Mr. Meyers allegedly contact, and what stories came out in the press that you attribute to ’spreading false rumors.’

List the false rumors, Andrew’s connection and please refute them and cite facts in their place.

List the blogs, where Mr. Meyers ‘crossed the line.’

Define the line for those of us who are missing your insight.

Show us how Gabby managed to stay on the issues in spite of all of these accusations.

Cactus connections, fund appeals and critters are what I remember about the issues so thoroughly defended.

    Remember the timeline:

Andrew Meyers did not work for Patty Weiss before June of 2006. Do not get sloppy on your research as you may be libeling Andrew in anonymity.

Get busy. Your reputation depends on it.

  • Pardon me for taking so long here, but I don’t normally check this blog. I appreciate your response.

These rumors were never printed or blogged because the journalists and bloggers to whom these rumors were peddled had more ethics than said political operative who sank to sad lows during the Democratic primary — lows which Gabby’s campaign never once sank to.

Why don’t we just ask Tedski. Fair blogger, did Andrew ever float false and scandalous rumors about our new Democratic Congresswoman’s personal life to you during the Democratic primary? I think we know the answer, so why don’t you state for the record what the truth is.

Tedski has the opportunity here to set the record straight, and the Baja Arizona political community would certainly be interested in hearing from you with regard to this subject, so we can understand the ethics of our party’s political operatives…. one of which was willing to tar and feather a fellow Democrat — not about the issues but about false innuendo and gossip….

    Tedski, fill us in……..

BTW, Gabby’s campaign produced more with regard to the issues than Patty’s ever did — check Gabby’s campaign web site, which contains all of the press releases they created….. almost three times the amount that Patty’s did. And every single one was about the issues. Absolutely none about Patty. In fact, Patty’s name was never mentioned by Gabby’s campaign once until primary election night, when Gabby tipped her cap to Patty for graciously showing up at Gabby’s victory party. Andrew, OTOH, produced one-third of the releases that Gabby did, which were substantially weighted toward slinging mud toward Southern Arizona’s new Congresswoman.

    Sad, but true…..

    Roger and out, good buddy….

  • I asked for citations and quotes, not opinions.

Your reputation as an opinionated rumor monger is unchanged.

Remember the timeline, and get past your glittering generalities and editorials regarding Gabby.

How were these rumors spread, if no one printed them?

You are libeling Andrew with false innuendo. Prove your opinions with facts.

Or keep up the silly slander and love notes regarding Gabby.
