Jesse Latas

Specialist Jesse Latas, whose service in Iraq and struggle with leukemia inspired his father Jeff’s entry into politics, has died at the age of 22.
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola:
Teach us, good Lord,
to serve You as You deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labour and not to ask for any reward,
save that of knowing that we do Your will.

My thoughts to Jeff, Salette and Virginia. Sad news indeed for everyone.
I will remember Jesse as someone who lived his life to the fullest and chased his dreams. He fought a good battle.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Salette and Jeff some months ago and then met Jesse briefly. They were all some of the nicest people I have encountered, my thoughts are with them.

So sorry to hear of Jesse’s passing — what a young hero, to have enlisted despite his leukemia diagnosis. Our prayers to his parents Jeff and Salette.

Jesse came from one of the finest, most courageous and patriotic families I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. No wonder he was such an inspiring hero. My deepest condolences to his family, and may his memory infuse a deep determination in all of us to end all wars forever.
