Graf for Supervisor?
The latest rumblings are that Randy Graf, late of the Congressional District 8 race, is pondering a challenge to Ray Carroll. Carroll is regarded as moderate and definitely not Graf’s sort of Republican.
In the 2006 Republican congressional primary, Graf managed 43.0% in the precincts that make up Carroll’s district 4 (which is entirely in CD 8). This was better than his take in Pima County as a whole (40.6%), and slightly better than his total district wide (42.2%). It’s a pretty good base to work from, but not enough to take out Carroll one on one. One also has to remember that Pima County Supervisors, unlike legislators, are in our local newspapers and on television news almost every day. Not only that, the sort of work they do tends to build up good will with local communities. Carroll has strong support in areas like Green Valley and Vail because of projects he’s funded and issues he’s taken on on their behalf. These are places that Graf would count on winning should he run.
(Of course, he may not be taking on Carroll one on one should another rumor I heard turn out to be true. More on that one later.)
I’ve always thought of Graf as someone interested in ideological, partisan battle. I don’t know if his personality or the sort of politics he practices woulld be a good fit on the board. Aside from Paul Marsh, whose single term was a disaster, we haven’t had a dyed in the wool movement conservative on the board. Except on taxation, is Graf even interested in the sorts of issues the board works on?

Good scoop if it’s true. We would like to the story but our sources cannot confirm it at this time.

Oh hell no! I’m a Republican, but not Graf. He’s a nice guy, but his political ideologies are too extreme for him to be elected to something larger that the state legislature. But of course he managed to really screw it all up last fall. Again, nice guy, but he comes off as a freakin’ nutter and he allies himself with the kind of people that should not be representative of the Republican Party. Randy, for the love of all that is Holy, please go home and retire!

He ain’t a nice guy. He just wants to live off the system.
I hope he goes 4 it. Carroll will destroy him. Then Graf can go away.

Wow, just noticed this.
The prior post is correct. Carroll would destroy Graf. He would be far better off chasing the seat Paton is vacating to replace Bee, although I’m not sure where he lives. He might have to move.
Also, someone has to chase Saradnik in 26.

I think Ray Carroll should snuff-out Graf’s delusions of grander once and for all, (all of us). .

No way, Supervisor Carroll would crush him. Graf is an extremist and far right Republican, not suited for District 4 at all.

I would like to see a Carroll vs. Graf debate. Carroll would pound him into a corner just like when he was a boxer. He’s really fighting this Rosemont mine thing- I’m not surprised because Carroll is a DOWN TO EARTH, reasonable person. Graf is a just a product of the extreme anti-immigrant groups. That is his only issue. Do you really think that Graf can match wits with Carroll? I think not.

I had one interaction with Graf that convinced me that leads me to believe he is intellectually shallow. At one of the CD8 debates, I asked him what his thoughts were on the REAL ID [federal law passed, I think, in 2005 which would require the state governments to document that everyone receiving a drivers license was a U.S. citizen by 2008 (they may have revised this due date because so many state governments were up in arms about this unfunded mandate)]. What amazed me is that Graf knew nothing about this. Surprising, given its connection with immigration and border security–his MAJOR issue.
I agree with Bill and Eshvon–Graf should just go away.

Graf could write a book on what NOT to do.
