Bel Biv Devoe
Candidate for State Democratic Party Chairman Don Bivens has spent the day meeting with local Democratic Party muckety mucks. I count this as a healthy sign. One weakness I saw with David Waid’s chairmanship was despite his administrative skills, he had an uneasy relationship with party activists.
The smart money says that Bivens is the prohibitive favorite to get elected when party activists meet in Prescott next month. This hasn’t stopped some dissatisfied party activists from looking for another candidate.
Some of the dissatisfaction is understandable. Waid stepped down and it seemed mere moments later, Bivens’s name surfaced. Although he has been active in politics, he hasn’t been the sort of guy that would be well known to state committee members. Some are not happy that this guy seems to have been helicoptered in. The barnstorming that he has done over the last couple of weeks is no doubt being done to counter that perception.
At first, the candidate was current Vice Chair Donna Branch-Gilby. The trouble was, Branch-Gilby was not interested in running. Sure, a couple of weeks back she was reluctant to commit. Who would commit before finding out whether or not the guy is a żłób? Some folks misinterpreted this reluctance as meaning that she wanted the office. Anyway, today she let it be known that she has endorsed Bivens.
Another interesting name has surfaced: that of Ted Downing. Downing is actually out of the country, so it is hard to tell if he is just being talked about or whether he is actually interested in the office. Given the vapor that was the Branch-Gilby boomlet, I have my doubts.
The meeting will be on August 11th.

I understand the dem’s opposition to Don given what has happened in the past but this is not the same thing. Don is a Goddard guy and this is about transferring power from Napolitano to Goddard. Its the same tactics but a different person behind the curtain and if I know anything about Goddard: Don is going to be a VERY different chair than Waid.

A lot of people feel there was a plan to just serve six months and then turn it over to someone else. Having said that, I have talked to a lot of people and they have had nothing but good things to say about Bivens. I agree that he will likely have a better relationship with activists because he is one.

We need to restart the Draft Ted Prezelski movement for chair.
