Republicans: Oh Yeah, Well You Have Dissaray-er
I knew it wouldn’t take long, our friends on the other side have been pointing to the resignation of David Waid as some sort of sign that the Democratic Party is totally dysfunctional. Yep…the party is on the verge of imploding and going the way of the Anti-Masons in the 1830’s.
I guess they got tired of the stories about the mass exodous from the Republican Party office, which they are now pooh-poohing as no big deal. Personally, when your entire staff quits en masse, loyal givers won’t return calls and your biggest accomplishment is to torpedo a bill by one of your own senators, I call that a problem. Of course, I’m just a dumb liberal.
What they are either forgetting or ignoring is that over the last six years, the party has developed quite an infrastructure. They also have a decent staff that can keep things going as long as the chair is reasonably competent. Even better, they are financially secure. The recent dinner with Bill Clinton should keep party operations funded until the end of the year, enabling them to raise money for GOTV and outreach efforts for the 2008 election.
(Hey, and we in Tucson saved them the trouble of having to blow money on the Mayor’s race…bet you didn’t think there was an upside there…)
Here’s the funny part: in the 2005-2006 cycle, Arizona Democrats had three chairmen. Did those resignations cause huge difficulties? Hmm…gained two congressional seats, re-elected the governor, gained seats in the state house and senate. Heck, one of those chairmen is now sitting in congress. Yeah, it was a “good Democratic year,” but one has to remember how Arizona has been immune from “good Democratic years” for a long time.
But hey, the ship must be sinking…where are the lifeboats?

Precisely. Waid leaves the party in the most solid shape it’s been in a long time. The new exec. director is top-notch. Possible successors to Chair are top-notch. The staff is experienced and has proven success in their respective arenas. The money’s coming in. And folks are jazzed about the further pickups to be made in 2008. Sorry, right-wingers, I ain’t buyin’ your crap.

I am a loyal Republican, but I couldn’t agree with you more. When I read that post over at Sonoran Alliance this morning, I laughed out loud! But please, David, don’t throw all of us right-wingers into one heap…I am honest enough to admit when the state Republican party is in trouble. And, I don’t think that things are going to get any better under its current leadership (I use the term loosely). The state Democratic party is in far better shape than the Republican, and anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or being deliberately deceptive!

PS - My use of a pseudonym is so that I don’t get purged from being involved in LD-11 Republican politics by Chairmain Mao….excuse me….I mean, Chairman Haney. How dare I criticize the party!?!?

David Waid has done an outstanding job. Not only on last year’s election, but this year Democratic fundraising has been very solid, while the state GOP is in such a funding shortfall that pretty soon they may call up the McCain campaign and ask for a loan.

How, exactly, does this bill provide “special rights to homosexuals”? What right are we talking about here? The right to live? The right to not be beaten up or hurt because of one’s sexual orientation? Those are “special rights”?

Agree Sirocco…
The Republican party has been the biggest fans of adding more and more punishment to virtually every crime. They add additional penalties to crimes all the time, singly some out as morally wrong and worth making an extra statement on.
For instance, toughening employer sanction on hiring illegals.
Oh..by the way…check THIS out. This very much evidence of what some of us have been saying all along. Business is the key stumbling block in the Republican party against all the immigration hoopla. They clearly went too far…the GOP has alienated business interests to the point of not just withholding funds, but now attacking the far right on their morally bankrupt positions on immigration.
