Gawd, I Have to Write About Paris Hilton Too
Okay, this guy Sheriff Lee Baca who is now being hammered for releasing Paris Hilton early? Guess who he endorsed for President.
That’s right: John McCain.
Baca, by the way, has been criticized in the past for the soft spot on his heart for celebrities. He had a ”celebrity reserve unit” that had to be curtailed because of the misbehavior of the various B-Listers and wealthy campaign contributors in the program. He also took grief for trying to cover up the details of Mel Gibson’s arrest.
Candidates like these sorts of endorsements because they give the veneer of being “tough on crime.” How well does this guy represent that? How long does the Baca endorsement stay up on McCain’s website now? In case it gets yanked down, the Los Angeles Times has it here.

Why would he want to take it down?
The fact is, if a person is wealthy enough they can buy special treatment from the criminal justice system.
Case in point– Kemper Marley, first Arizona billionaire, known mobster, linked to the Bolles murder (but never charged) and close friend and mentor of one Jim Hensley, who is John McCain’s father in law (and hugely important in helping him raise the money real fast the first time he ran for Congress.)
McCain should be honored to have the endorsement of a guy who understands that rich people, especially celebrities deserve gold carpet treatment no matter what they do, and a sheriff who can afford to give a break to poor little ol’ Paris, while he can run up his stats by bringing overwhelming resources to bear against indigent people who may be accused of a crime but are represented by overworked, underpaid, and often disinterested public defenders.

It will be interesting to see if state legislator Trish Groe will received a similar punishments since she was also caught with a pretty serious DUI, and driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI in California.
Hope the “tough on crime” mantra holds up with Republicans as well as with starlets.
