For It Before He Was Against It…

Guy SmileyHey, anyone notice that one of the people that voted against cloture on the Senate’s vaunted immigration compromise today was a certain Jon Llewellyn Kyl?

Yeah…remember how the guy was getting so much credit for forging this compromise (after campaigning last year against such compromises)? Hmm…he must love his compromise so much that he doesn’t want it to get sullied by allowing other senators to vote on it. I hear that the Overstreet Price Guide knocks 60% off of the value of bills that have been opened up for a vote.

  • Breakfast with Jon Kyl:

Apple juice–NO!, I mean orange juice..Or actually grape jui– I mean grapefruit, no actually I’ll have cranapple with a dash of orange, prune and cough medicine.

Huevos rancheros with red AND green.

    Flapjacks. ’nuff said.

Sausage– you know what they say about legislation being made– make that double order of sausage.

Bacon– little something for the folks back home.

Hominy grits– to my way of thinking, the most progressive part of the country.

French toast– no we can’t have that! Make it an omelette made with American cheese.

And oh, yeah– blue corn tortillas. In non-election years, I still manage to make it as far out here as Santa Fe! I mean heck, I’m not running this year, so almost all the way back to AZ should be good, right?

What? A check? You can’t charge me for breakfast, I’m a Senator!!

  • It will be interesting to see whether the Star comments editorially on Kyl’s vote. The publisher’s insistence on endorsing him last year although Kyl had voted against most of the Star’s editorial positions helped suppress votes Pederson desperately needed in Pima County.

  • slightly off topic… Guy Smiley has been declared a dead ringer for Mitt Romney over at Slate.

  • Harry Reid killed this bill by calling for cloture when there were still worthy amendments to be heard. There is almost no doubt that Kyl would have voted for the bill after the amendments had been voted on.

  • Um…Kyl didn’t like the unammended bill? Then why was he taking credit for the darned thing last week?
