One Might Even Call It Gould-ish
So, guess who asked to be present at this week’s execution of Robert Comer? Sen. Ron Gould.
So, what connection does Gould have to the case? No one seems to know. He wasn’t even living in the state when Comer committed the murders that he was convicted of. The victims weren’t constituents of his. I can only conclude that he wanted to go because he had the desire to see someone die.
It’s this sort of thing that makes death penalty opponents like me wonder if some supporters are really into justice or if their motives are more crude.
Memo to Ron Gould: if you really have the desire to watch someone put a needle in someone’s arm, go down to your local Red Cross and give blood.

Knowing Gould, he pumped his fists in the air and yelled, “USA!, USA!”

“If we don’t kill this guy, then the terrorists win,” said Gould.

Well i fail to see how he would scream USA USA USA when he has a confederate flag outside his house.
Last time i checked, those are the real “traitors” to America. Those who took arms against us and tried to secede. Not an immigrant trying to achieve the American dream.

My only hope in him wanting (did he actually attend? the news said only 3 witnessed Comer’s execution?) to see this execution is that it might move him to change a bit. Most who see one, I am told, come to realize that the death of even a person who has committed the most horrific of crimes, is horrific itself. To a pro-lifer/end-of-lifer, like Gould, maybe it will resonate.

Gould told the Republic “Emotionally, it hasn’t affected me”. Watching someone be put to death is meaningless to him. So much for a nut that espouses what a Christian he is.

I think the news report was that Comer invited only 3 friends, including his lawyer to attend. Of course at any of these state sponsored murders, there are numerous other witnesses — a whole gallery of them — including kin of the victims and a variety of public officials.
In earlier times, witnesses were issued a formal, printed invitation from the presiding official. In Arizona, the condemned is able to see and acknowledge the witnesses to his killing. Some other jurisdictions screen the witnesses from the view of the condemned.
In ay case, judicial murder is barbaric — and for someone such as Sen. Gould with no formal nor personal connection to the case to wish to see one is incomprehensible. This is a wish no psychologically well-adjusted person could have; for him to say he was emotionally unaffected — well it proves either that he’s not psychologically healthy, or that he’s a liar.

I’d agree, that it is very odd and very sick to want to go watch someone else die, especially someone you have no connection to.
But hey, if he really wants to see death, it appears (at least looking at his picture) that he is relatively young and healthy. He shoudn’t have too much trouble getting in shape to pass a military physical. If he is a supporter of George Bush’s war (which most GOPers are) then why doesn’t he just volunteer to join the army? I’m sure they can send him where he’ll see plenty of death.
