New Spin On Renzi Resignation Rumors
Now, my always reliable sources are giving a new reason for Rick Renzi deciding to stick around a bit longer. Of course, some of these people also told me that he’d be gone on Friday…
Often in these sorts of situations, an office holder will use the resignation as a bargaining chip in plea negotiations. If Renzi were to step down before a plea deal was assured, he would have had one less bit of leverage in talks with prosecutors. At least one person I talked to before the not-quite-resignation date was suprised that there was talk about a resignation when there didn’t seem to be a deal in place, or even serious talks of one.
The other story that is going around is that Renzi may be just stubborn enough to want to stick around not only despite the pressure, but because of it. I don’t know enough about the guy’s personal style to buy into this.
