Renzi: Done Like the Co-Star of An American Werewolf in London

TucsonMark posted yesterday that Rick Renzi has taken himself out of a program called ROMP. So, my first question was, what the heck is ROMP?

ROMP is the “Regain Our Majority Program.” It was one of the money raising schemes put together by Tom DeLay. Under DeLay, it was actually called “Retain Our Majority Program,” but, well, I guess the fact that the name had to change is a tribute to its lack of success last year. Given the antics of Randy “Duke” Cunningham and Shirlington Limousine Serviceit might be a good idea to ditch the word “Romp” all together.

Anyhow, according to Politico, Renzi has asked to be taken out of the ROMP program. Whether this was entirely voluntary or he was pushed by leadershp is unclear. A scandal weary Republican caucus is not in too much of a mood to stick by damaged incumbents.

It is becoming more and more obvious that Renzi will not be running next year. I suppose the question now is whether he is able to finish off this term.

In another Renzi note-related note: the Associated Press reported last night that Brian Murray, an aide to Renzi, called US Attorney Paul Charlton’s office about leaked reports of the investigation into Renzi last year. Look for the Charlton firing to become as much of an issue for congressional investigators as the firings of David Iglesias and Carol Lam.

  • It’s absolutely no surprise that Murray would have called Charlton’s office. Any Republican who’s been involved in the state party operations knows that Murray was the absolute worst Executive Director that the Arizona GOP has had in the last decade and one of the most ethically challenged.

Murray is a slime and deserves to be indicted along with Renzi.
