It’s Like Listening to That Peter Gabriel Song 71 Times in a Row

As much as I disliked John Ashcroft or even Edwin Meese, I always thought the guys were smart and knew what they were doing. They were serious people who were up to the job. I don’t get that impression about Alberto Gonzales. I don’t know, something about him just tells me he is way out of his depth.
I am also not a fan of Arlen Specter, but check out this video if you haven’t seen it. Gonzales ought to show it to people in his office as a hint to what a little prosecutorial experience can do.

Ted, how can you NOT like Arlen Specter??? If there were more Republicans like him, many of us who left the GOP to become Democrats might still be Republicans. He is bright, articulate, consistent and not afraid to tell the right-wingers that their positions in favor of government intrusion into private matters are affronts to true conservatism. I saw him take a brave stand on abortion in front of a snarling bunch of Republican PCs right here in Tucson back in 1996. He stood his ground and let those people know that their elitism would ultimately lead to the erosion and disintegration of the Republican base. Moreover, his willingness to take on Bush on several issues over the last seven years stands in marked contrast to sheep like Jon Kyl.
