Marsha, Marsha, Marsha

Sen. Marsha ArzbergerA friend from Cochise County was over the other day and we were musing about where Marsha Arzberger, First Lady of Kansas Settlement, will go now that this is her last term in the State Senate. She’s achieved the status of minority leader, and it would be a real shame to let her legislative and policy talents go unused after the end of the next session because of an ill-concieved term limits statute. My friend had a suggestion: what about the Board of Regents?

Wouldn’t be a bad idea, if you ask me.

  • Hmmm….she was on the Board of Regents from 1993-2000. Not sure of her record when on it, but our universities truly need help and we need some real advocates for higher education, students, and faculty. If she is all that an more then I say yes…

Just as long as we don’t get some crony that wants to use the boards for their own careers.

  • She was a staffer for the Board of Regents, not a member.

  • A Board of Regents position for her is an excellent suggestion. I would also favour disposing of term limits.

Thanks Ted, when I looked at her resume online it appeared that she was a member. Appreciate it.

She has a public administration background and masters (although from that University up there).

As a staffer she should have plenty of knowledge about higher education in the state and as a former legislator.

I want to be sure, however, that we get the right people on this very important board, which has the power to raise tuition and set agendas for higher education. That she represents Southern Arizona is a start. ASU appears to be doing very very well, while the U of A is about to suffer two years of budget cuts…due to mismanagement it appears.

  • Time for her to really retire to play rancher or whatever.

We don’t need to hang on to these right-wing dems in AZ.

Let’s hear it for term limits! Time for Arzberger to step down and fade away.
