Me Being a Smartass

In this week’s Tucson Weekly, Tom Danehy has a column deriding the silliness of every darned state moving up its primary. He has a good point there.
However, he seems to be taking the most issue with Arizona moving its primary up to February 5th. He would rather that Arizona not join the herd and move its primary to such an early date.
I wouldn’t have a problem with his complaint, except the Arizona primary really hasn’t been moved, and certainly isn’t earlier. It was on the same Tuesday in 2004, which made it occur on the even earlier date of February 3rd. Doesn’t exactly make this unprecedented.

They first moved it to early February in 1996 to help Phil Gramm’s campaign - at the behest of the mummy, John McCain.
So, Tom Danehy needs to do a little more research next time.
