Dear Craigslist, I Never Believed Your Letters Until…

A friend sent me a link to this Craigslist post:

I am a committed environmentalist from Tucson who happens to serve in the State Legislature in Phoenix. While I would rather not have to drive a car to the Legislature for work, we don’t yet have the commuter rail I am working on, so for now, I have to have a car.

But I won’t drive any car but a hybrid. That’s where you come in. If you cherish a Honda Insight, Toyota Prius, or Honda Civic Hybrid with less than 100,000 miles, and would like your car to have a loving new home to help me preserve the Arizona environment, I can pay cash (up to $8,000) and would like to do so ASAP.

Hmm. Rueing the lack of commuter rail service? A committed environmentalist from Tucson? Three guesses who this might be. Naw, I’m only going to give you two.

I kid the guy, but he deserves some props for not wanting to pollute on the way up to Phoenix or when he’s stuck in stop and go at the 60 interchange.

  • It’s not Tom??

The other guess is too obvious, but then again he already has a Prius..

  • Steve should also check out a VW TDI and run it on biodiesel. This can be just as good or better than a hybrid which still needs petroleum.

He’s not getting a Prius with under $100,000 miles for a measly $8000…well maybe one of the old old old ones.

  • 2001, maybe. Although I did see a 2002 for 9k the other day (very rare occurrence).

Where the heck do you get biodiesel if you are drive outside of Tucson? I mean, I was once told that there were only two places in all of Tucson that sell it. Is this true? Might be fun for an in town commuter vehicle but might be tough if you decide to go out of town or to the mountains.

Wait, Farley has a Prius. So, Tom (or whoever it is), let me know if you want help finding a good TDI.

Our TDI has a 600 mile range, so refueling is not as big a challenge as you might think.

In AZ you can now get biodiesel in Tucson, Phoenix, Oracle, and Flagstaff and availability is sure to grow.

Thanks for the info, Daniel. I was given a hard sell on a biodiesel vehicle and ended up getting a Prius instead….and I have to say I absolutely love it and can rarely wrest it from my wife. You are probably right about expansion of availability of the fuel as it becomes profitable for people to sell it.

Still, I walk to and from work 10 blocks each day (and pick up garbage along the way).

Cleanest transportation ever designed is walking. I know I would sure love to see more people moving into central neighborhoods so they can walk/bike to work.
