Oien Elevates the Dialogue
It was reported to me a few weeks back that Lori Oien was complaining to folks that Rodney Glassman was not involved in his neighborhood association. First of all, it’s not even true. Secondly, even if it was, it would be a better charge to level at someone who had no previous community involvement, as in “he isn’t even active in their neighborhood…”. With all that Glassman has been involved in in this community, it is silly to pick out this one comparatively minor item as “proof” that he is unengaged. It is a bit like saying Michael Jordan was a poor basketball player because he didn’t win a certain trophy in High School.
She’s still at it. This time, Glassman is being attacked for, uh, having air conditioning. Check out this item from this morning’s Political Notebook:
In fact, Notebook was chatting with Republican candidate Lori Oien, and she dropped an interesting reason she finds herself a better potential councilperson than Democrat Rodney Glassman: She has a swamp cooler at home and figures Glassman has A/C. “You think Rodney can relate to the humidity?” she said.
So, now, air conditioning is a sign that you are our of touch with regular folks? I don’t know what decade Oien is living in, but fewer and fewer folks have swamp coolers. What’s she going to complain about next? That Rodney, opressor of the masses, has cable and Lori the Populist makes do with broadcast television? Rodney, the oligarch, has a washing machine and Lori, salt of the earth, goes down to the river with her washboard?
The fact that Oien would think that air conditioning is out of the reach of most homeowners (heck, even I have air conditioning) shows that its her that is out of touch with Tucsonans.

Lori has shown she has a sense of humor, apparently you do not. If you check with Rodney, I’ll bet he got a chuckle out this and was glad she did not mention “Wrong Way Glassman” as reported in the Star Newspaper a few days before and with much more gusto!

Yep, Ted has no sense of humour whatsoever.
