I Spoke Too Soon; It’s Worse Than I Thought

Jack HarperOkay, you know that thing I posted mere moments ago about Sen. Jack Harper and his “tour” of the State Veteran’s Home? I already have more details.

Harper showed up early this morning and represented that he was doing his own “independent investigation” outside of the joint committee that was established to investigate doings at the Home. Harper said he was not interested in a tour. He only wanted to see visitor logs. In particular, he wanted to know if there had been a visit from Harry Mitchell.

A visit from Harry Mitchell? What’s that got to do with anything?

Well, Harper got jumped on by me and the Yellow Sheet for putting forward the claim that Mitchell had toured the home and done nothing about what was going on there. Not only does Mitchell, as a federal official, not have any authority of the home, he did not make a visit there.

Harper could either correct his mistake, or forget about it and hope it goes away. Apparently, however, he has become obsessed with what is, at best, a side issue in the hopes of being able to carry out some sort of vendetta against Mitchell.

So, is Harper’s “investigation” about making sure our aging veterans get the care they deserve, or is it about landing a few blows on Harry Mitchell?

I guess this is his “independent investigation,” but if it in any way reflects what he will do as a member of the committee, he ought to be removed and replaced with someone that is more interested in fixing the management of the facility than some vain hope of backing up his own ill-considered soundbites.
