Well, “Fact Finding” Would Limit His Ability to Shoot His Mouth Off
Remember when earlier this week Sen. Jack Harper attacked Congressman Harry Mitchell for visiting the State Veteran’s Home and ignoring the problems he found there? Well, as you know, Mitchell didn’t make his visit to the state’s Veteran’s Home, but instead he visited the federal Veteran’s Hospital in downtown Phoenix. Harper seemed to have trouble telling the difference in responsibilities between a federal official like Mitchell and a state official like himself. Hopefully, Harper will get this straightened out before he tries to declare war on Barbados.
Interestingly, today Harper had an oporitunity to make a visit to the State Veteran’s Home. He was invited, along with all of the other members of the joint legislative committee who are supposed to investigate matters there, to make a visit. Well, he didn’t show. I suppose that he had something more important to do. He probably would have just been confused by facts and evidence anyway.
Now he and Mitchell have something in common: neither one has visited the State Veteran’s Home.
As it turns out, few members of the newly enthroned committee made it out for the visit. Funny how many folks have time to send out releases and hold press conferences but don’t have time to visit the place that they are all fired up about.
The presence of Harper on the committee has been a bit controversial. Today’s Yellow Sheet has an item on this:
Railbirds are questioning the wisdom of leadership in naming Harper to the joint committee that’s going to look into the vet home situation. “If he conducts himself in the rude manner he displayed durring last year’s District 21 recount hearings and in a couple of hearings he chaired this year, it will be an embarassing disaster,” one railbird said.

You assume that the state GOP leadership wants to fix the situation.
They would much prefer an opportunity to turn it into partisan hay than they would an opportunity to fix the problem or do the right job by our vets.
