Presidential Campaign Update

Last week, Bill Richardson came to Phoenix for some small events. At the time, it was announced that Ed Pastor would be Richardson’s honorary campaign chairman in Arizona.

With Pastor would probably come a whole raft of elected officials in the Phoenix area. I’m wondering if this also means that the “Eckstrom machine” will sign on too. Dan Eckstrom still feels loyalty toward Pastor despite the fact that he no longer represents southern Arizona. He supported the Pastor-endorsed Richard Gephardt in 2004, and when Gephardt dropped out, he supported John Kerry.

  • Right now Bill Richardson is the best candidate for helping the SW.

Governors become Presidents. Don’t count out Richardson.

  • Daniel:

I wrote at some length about why it makes sense to support him in Arizona here:

And the fact is, we are not going to get that elusive ‘win’ that conservatives seem to have deluded themselves that we will get in Iraq, so when we get out it will be via a negotiated settlement. So given that George W. Bush is certainly the worst diplomat that we’ve had in the oval office in decades, we will need a great diplomat just to 1) leave in the best situation we can when we inevitably leave Iraq, and 2) begin to restore the generations of faith and credibility that were recklessly tossed aside by George W. Bush in his stubborn and rigid approach to world affairs generally, and his single minded fixation on Iraq specifically.
