Yesterday, I threw out an allegation that was unecessary for the point I was trying to make. I alleged that a reporter had written a story downplaying the Rick Renzi indictments, and was later hired by a firm that does work for Renzi’s attorney. Well, I went back and checked the story. As it turns out, three reporters wrote or contributed to that story, and the reporter I was thinking of was not among them. I should have been more careful to check the original article.

My post did not name the reporter, and I will not further amplify my mistake and any trouble I caused him by naming him here.

  • No, but it is worth noting that the Republic endorsed Rick Renzi last year, so when the scandal broke they were a day late to report on it and then their first major story on it had a headline and content that suggested that it was politically motivated nonsense. So their impartiality was certainly called into question (though after they endorsed Harry Mitchell, they may have been walking a fine line trying to only go after one GOP Congressman at a time– to paraphrase Michael Jordan’s most forgettable comment, Republicans subscribe to newspapers too.)
