The People Are Represented by Two Separate but Equally Important Groups…

Now I’m hearing noises that Fred Thompson is floating his name for the Republican nomination. The commentary I’ve seen about this has been skeptical, but it makes me wonder about the strength of the front-runner troika if people are still hunting around for another “true conservative.”
But, being this blog, we have to consider something more important. Like this: ever notice how many politicians have shown up on Law and Order episodes? Here is a sample from my own memory and far too many hours of observation:
- Bronx Rep. José Serrano showed up playing a judge named José Serrano, oddly enough.
- Former Iowa Rep. Fred Grandy played a Texas oil baron on a 2003 episode. Of course, all of us know him better as Yeoman-Purser Burl ‘Gopher’ Smith from Love Boat.
- Judge Leslie Crocker Snyder played a judge. Oddly enough, Snyder ran against Robert Morgenthau in the 2005 Democratic Primary for New York District Attorney. Morgenthau is the basis for the character of Adam Schiff.
- Mayor Michael Bloomberg played himself on two episodes.
- Mayor Rudolph Giuliani played himself on an episode.
- Giuliani’s ex-wife, Donna Hannover, has made several appearances as Judge Deborah Burke. She has also shown up on Criminal Intent, The Practice and Family Law, as well as numerous other programs.

Don’t forget that Michael Moriarty briefly ran for president in 1992.
