So, Do We Refer to Them as a Swarm?
A wise congressman once said “Arizona doesn’t have political machines, just erector sets with ambition.” Looks like Tim Bee, in preparation for a race for congress, may be working on plan no. 12 1/2.
Jim Green, who just won re-election to his seat as a Justice of the Peace in November, has stepped down. In his place has emerged Keith Bee, brother of Senator Tim Bee and a former Senator himself, as a contender for the seat. The appointment is up to the Board of Supervisors. It was thought that this would be an easy ride: the rules say the board is free to appoint whom they want, as long as the person is of the same party as the one that stepped down. However, the board has decided on a process and hearings to choose a successor. Observers are quick to point out that there probably will be few other Republicans who would be willing to put their names forward and step on Tim Bee’s toes, especially since he is President of the State Senate.

I recall that during the campaign for State School Superintendent in 2002 (the only election a Bee ever lost, by the way) the former Senator (Keith) used to get ruffled when it was noted that he’s resided more in Phoenix than Tucson over the past several years.
AZ is full of dynasties, large and small. I guess this is another one.
